When I am wearing a bra of any kind, I literally feel like I cannot breathe. I feel like it's compressing my chest. It doesn't matter what type of bra, nor how loose it is.

Anyone else ever had this issue?

Is It just a sensation/mental thing, or does the bra literally impact your ability to draw a deep breath?

If it's just mental, I can't help. I cannot wear turtle necks, scarves around my neck, or a winter jacket fully zipped because the sensation makes me feel like I'm suffocating. ðŸ˜

Yes, and this is why I almost never wear a bra.

I tried bigger and bigger bras and they made no difference.  And I am NOT a big bosomed lady.  :P

Well I never wear one if I don't absolutely have to, but sometimes it HAS to be done; such as when I go in public. ;-p

It doesn't impact my ability to breathe deeply, but it really feels like it is constricting my chest and it makes me have a tight feeling in my chest. The feeling goes away as soon as I unhook it.

I've had this happen recently with the extreme heat.  I felt like I couldn't breath and I took off my bra as soon as possible and it really helped. I won't wear one unless absolutely necessary and just being out in public doesn't count as absolutely necessary.  I'm fairly small-chested so support is not a big need.

I don't get the extreme reaction you describe, but I sure act like I do when I'm removing my bra at night. I'm dramatically removing my bra in the living room and declaring "It tried to choke me to death!"

Once, when there was laundry stacked on the dining room table, I came home from a dinner out, removed my bra, and changed into pajama pants from the folded stacks. My kids were mortified and accused me of being "unsanitary" in the dining room. They're not pajama people like me so they don't get it. They get dressed on snow days like weirdos.

Only if it doesn't fit right, an underwire or I have p m s.

You might make a bra shopping trip to find one that doesn't feel like it's crushing or suffocating  you.

Have you ever been professionally fitted?

Maybe it won't help, but it seems like it would be worth it.

Unless you're very well endowed, I think I'd wear an extra layer and not wear a bra if I felt that way. Yes, even in public. What about a cami with light support? Does that make you feel that way?

I stopped wearing bras.  If I must wear something I wear an undershirt with thin straps.  It has no compression/support.  That works fine because I'm not that well endowed.

I did have to break down and buy something for the gym, but bought a larger than needed sport's bra and that works out well enough.

I am most definitely NOT well endowed. However, nursing 4 babies/toddlers has left me with some rather deflated looking little balloons. ;-p

I haven't done a cami with a built-in bra, but maybe I could give that a shot. I don't generally have to wear them in the winter because of tanks under sweatshirts, but alas, in Louisiana that just isn't a large percentage of the year.

I may need to get a good fit somewhere for those occasions where I must wear one.

I like those, but not all of them.  Some have this kind of plastic elastic and that gets all sweaty and itchy.

I wonder about the genie bras.  Those look like they'd be comfortable.

The camis with bra inside seem a bit better, but I still only wear them when I absolutely must.

Sometimes I wear an undershirt (tank) just to have a layer between my shirt and my bod (when wearing a thin-ish shirt).

Mostly I just wear a dark-colored, generously-sized t-shirt and if anyone has a problem with that, it's their problem.  :P

Yes, I've had that. I've also had bras that make my acid reflux worse when they put pressure on me. I stopped wearing an underwire bra and it helped, but hasn't eliminated the problem completely. I used to think it was due to a bad fit, but I no longer believe that's the problem.
