swimming pools...would you do this?

we live in northern Nebraska.

We just returned from a 3 week family vacation.  This is why we haven't put up our swimming pool...(we own a fairly large above ground pool).  But now that we are home we are debating whether or not to put it up.  It's the middle of July and we are going to be gone again all of next week to a youth conference. But this week the highs are in the high 90's to 100. We do not live super close to a public pool (about 10 miles away...and it costs money to swim)...so that is not a real good option.

My question to you is, would you take the time an effort to fill the pool this late in the season? Chances are that the weather will be warm through August and the kids will get many options to play, even if we start school in less than a month.

What would you do??

I'd put it up.  The first year we had a similar pool we didn't even buy it until the middle of July.  The kids had great fun.  That year, Ohio stayed warm enough to swim all the way through September and they had a great time swimming during breaks in our school day.  They even did a "polar" dip on the last day it was up when the temps had dropped into the 30's the previous night.

Now, since the pool is up at the beginning of June/end of May, they are usually getting tired of swimming by Labor Day and we take it down that weekend.

Do you already have all the ground preparation work done? If yes, I'd set up the pool. If not, I'd skip it. Our first pool was a large above the ground type. After having inground pools my dh vows he will never do ground prep again! Count your blessings if you already have a naturally flat, non rocky and noxious weed free area.

Another vote for putting it up. We were late getting our above ground pool opened one year. It just meant we were sad when the time came to take it down. It is a lot of work and there is less time to reap the rewards, but it was still worth it here. Enjoy the cool relief from the heat!
