lilmissc74 Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Can anyone recommend a foreign language program that focuses on conversational skills, not grammar? My son is entering 9th grade and reads at approx. a 3rd grade level. He just started level 5 of Barton. He's interested in German, I think Spanish would be helpful or maybe sign language. I want him to be able to work somewhat independently and not have to read everything to him so an audio or computer program would be best. I work 1 on 1 with him for all subjects and need something he can do more alone to build up his ability to work alone (and give me a little break!). Thanks! Quote
OneStepAtATime Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 I don't know of anything that he could do independently that does mainly conversational language learning but hopefully someone else has a suggestion. If not, what about a local tutor? Quote
HomeAgain Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Pimsleur maybe? The focus of the program is on listening and repeating, not on writing. Quote
Arcadia Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Pimsleur maybe? The focus of the program is on listening and repeating, not on writing. Pimsleur German would work. Also any german CD program that teach conversational german and is usually advertise as learn a language while driving. Quote
maize Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 We like Michel Thomas, I haven't used German but am guessing it is available. Quote
