Shelly in IL Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Hi. I've homeschooled my boys exclusively until 8th grade, where they would take one or two classes at a coop and their junior and senior years take community college for dual credit. My eldest son has always been a good student. He scored a 28 on his act - good but not amazing. Good enough to be accepted and win the military dependent scholarship at a big 10 school. He always felt that his dad won that, though. Well, he joined ROTC before school started his sophomore year. He needed to catch those who started their freshman year. Airforce ROTC was a fit. He won a second full ride scholarship, plus a $400 per month stipend, $$ towards books and all school fees paid. This summer he attended boot camp, where he won the top candidate award and a peer award as well. They asked him to come back and instruct next summer. So, this was my skinny, scrawny, non Athletic, socially awkward kid. Not any more!! He's a big strapping beautiful young man with the world at his feet. That was my word of encouragement for the day. (Incidentally, youngest is just starting his junior year in high school and will be at the community college this year and doing amazingly well. Works about 4 jobs and one is full time! It works, ladies. Don't give up!!) 22 Quote
