Janeway
I am not sure what happened...but..maybe it is just something where I was slow and stuck to it and things are working out...but... My 12 yr old has been very on the ball all week! He has even worked ahead! I have not once had to ask him to do work. IN FACT, he asks me for more work before I am ready! AND, today is Saturday and he insisted on working today too, AND, he had a sleep over mid week and I had planned for him to not work that day, instead, when he came home, he wanted to do his work.

Janeway
Isn't that the kid who was refusing to do schoolwork? What happened to make him change do you think? Last school year, I sat with him and "remediated" him until he was ahead of grade level. Turns out, he is quite smart. I also gave him the ITBS/Cogat again. He scores very well on the COGAT every time, as in, 99th percentile. He was learning nothing or next to nothing in public school. This year, I made his work much more challenging. So, for example, we started last year with 5 grade BJU English and were still working on 5th grade spelling and were at level 4A in Singapore Math. NOW, one year later, we are 2/3 of the way through Singapore Math 6A, he is looking forward to Algebra (we did not skip any levels, I simply sat with him until he got ahead rather than behind). I went straight to Apologia Physical Science (his choice, he requested science), and 8th grade Daily Grams. He is still doing 7th grade SWO this year, but it seems challenging. I have a writing program too, but it is not labeled as a lower grade. It does not have a grade level actually. And for history, we are just doing books on tape and he is loving Duo Lingo. In otherwords, I think he is just happy to be further ahead and no longer defeated. Maybe he felt defeated when he was working on 4th and 5th grade level stuff in 6th grade. I am not sure. Maybe next week I will post how frustrated I am and we are back to the same old thing! LOL Edited July 16, 2016 by Janeway
