Susie in CA Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 I am looking at ordering Zumdahl's Chemistry for our studies this year. To save some dollars I am considering using the 2007 edition. Do you think this is okay? Or is there a reason I shouldn't use an edition this old? Thanks in advance. 1 Quote
regentrude Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 You can use even older chemistry texts. There is nothing cutting edge in a high school or intro college chem text. 3 Quote
Julie of KY Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I agree. No problem with an older text. 1 Quote
Susie in CA Posted July 15, 2016 Author Posted July 15, 2016 Thank you so much ladies! I thought so, too, but needed to make sure.... 1 Quote
foxbridgeacademy Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I agree with PP's about the age of the text. My only comment is make sure your student is up to the level of Chemistry in the book. Zumdahl has 3 levels (as far as I know) 1. World of Chem=for H.S., 2. Introductory Chem = First year College (maybe non-majors?) 3. Chemistry= College Chem Majors, and it's IMO a big jump from the previous two. 1 Quote

Lanny Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 (edited) Susie: We have a Chem textbook, for DD, waiting to be shipped to us, with 6 other items, in our Receiver/Fowarder in Miami this morning. You mentioned that you are looking at a 2007 edition, to save money. The textbook DD will use for her Chem course is even older. It is from 2000. I know they are developing a new Chem course, which takes a long time, and I assume it will use a (much?) newer textbook, but as others have mentioned, the age of the Chem textbook isn't really that important. We were told, 2 days ago, that they are developing a Dual Credit course, for Chem, but DD is set to begin Chem, now, so she will take the course that's available now, with the textbook from 2000.
