LMD Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Dd - 11 - is interested in coding. She's been doing the khan academy stuff for a while now. I like the idea of her having her own gadget to muck around with. I don't know where to start really, dh prefers arduino but I'm worried that it looks too difficult and she'll give up in frustration. I guess what I'm looking for is something to learn real coding, rather than copy/paste coding for kids. The microduino & Edison look like a fun intro and being Lego compatible is a plus (Lego is popular around here), but the programming looks too basic but I'm not sure of the format (Edware for Edison?) So, do you have any of these and how do you like it? Quote
Arcadia Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Take a look at daijobu's thread explaining what you ask http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/539642-an-arduino-and-raspberry-pi-annotated-bibliography/ 2 Quote
MomatHWTK Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 My 10 y.o. works with arduino sometimes. But, he has help from DH. Quote
LMD Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Dh will be helping and I think he's decided on arduino, he's going to help her build a tablet. Quote
MamaChicken Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Arduino is awesome. I highly recommend it. Just get one and a good intro book. DS 12 has been making stuff with arduino for several years. Quote
