SparklyUnicorn
So I have noticed something very odd about my heart rate based on the day of the week. When I go to the gym during the week my heart rate starts off high and gets very high, but then on the weekends it starts off low and never gets all that high. I'd chalk it up to maybe a fluke with a particular machine or something, but this has been happening over and over again. So yesterday I told my husband this, and he said the exact same thing happens to him. So weird! So what gives?
Carrie12345
Are the high numbers and low numbers consistent, or are they both going down over time? It seems obvious that they would increase while active and decrease afterward (due to improved cardio fitness), but the starting off high part has me thrown. wintermom
Why don't you check your heart rate manually (fingers on carotid artery and second hand on clock). I'd not rely on the equipment at the gym to be perfectly accurate.
ktgrok
Are you going at a different time of day? More or less stressed?
EKS
Do you ingest something different or more/less of something on the weekends?
SparklyUnicorn
We go earlier in the day on the weekend. Although last week I did go during the week at about the time we go on the weekend and it was high. My heart rate has always run on the fast side even when in shape. What I mean with starts high is it might start off at 90. Low is about 70. The difference is that large. I don't ingest anything different on the weekend vs the week. Tap
Here is an short article about total heart rate and how to calculate it. Here is an article about why it is important for your heart rate to decrease after exercise. Total heart rate calculator. Here is an article that discusses heart rate recovery. It isn't from a medical professional, but aligns with what I have been reading lately. DD17 has heart rate issues so I have been researching this quite a bit lately. FOR HER (not saying this is for you), she needed to increase her salt intake to get her heart rate to drop. She now take salt tablets several times per day and increased her water intake to 80oz, and she feels soooo much better. She has a medical condition called POTS, Her heart rate went up 48 points from just standing up. She is an athlete who eats well, she just needs more hydration and salt than the normal person. With the salt/water treatment, her heart rate now only increases 20 points or less from standing up. LOL FYI, we have Samsung Galaxy S7 phones, and they have heart rate monitors on them,. I know several other models do as well, so it may be worth checking out to see if you have easy access to one. If you have a fitness tracker, I think most now have heart rate monitors as well. It is an easy way to keep track, since it records your values for you. Edited July 11, 2016 by Tap
MaeFlowers
It's sounds like you are more stressed or anxious during the week. I would think that would be normal for most people, especially if they work a standard M-F, 9-5 work week. You may be picking up on your dh's morning/work stress. It sounds like you go alone during the week but together on the weekends? Maybe you feel more at ease/less stressed when you are together. Katy
My guess is it starts with an irritating alarm clock after not enough sleep, and increases from the stress of the day. I'd also guess on the weekends you sleep in and have less stress and less caffeine during the day.
Prairie~Phlox
Are you talking about the heart rate on the exercise machine? Those are never accurate.
