Going back to pixie cut

Just spent the last 10 months growing my pixie out to a bob. (For the second time in 3 years)

I think I need to cut it back again.

My hair blows around on my face, constantly hanging in my eyes. Clips, headbands, hats, wraps, etc give me a headache. Even "no headache" kinds.

I do a super short pixie & no products, wash n go. Fast & easy!

I thought that I could grow it back out to shoulder length & use my Lila Rose Flexi clips again, but I don't even want to, I don't think. I LIKE it short!

If it's long, it goes in a bun every single day.

I dont even care that I'm not "petite" enough to rock a pixie, boo to that idea.

I'll just wear little earrings again so I look like a girl (make up makes me sick) & when the baby stops pulling on my clothes, I can go back to wearing all my hippie skirts, lol.

But -

I hate getting it cut every month! (I know we just had a post about this recently)

And dh was so thrilled I was growing it back out. Sigh.

I'm in your boat. Since last September I've been growing out my pixie cut. I now have it in an inverted bob cut, and I don't like it. My husband doesn't like it either. I'm thinking I might go back to a pixie cut again. My problem is that now I'm living so rural that haircuts will be few and far between. What to do, what to do!

Kinsa- you are so far in the middle of nowhere that you could get it done professionally to start & have your hubby trim it afterwards with clippers & scissors at home:). Wear a hat if that doesn't go well.

Or, on that 4 hour trip to town, get your hair re cut then.

If you go really short pixie, you could get away with every 8 week trims, maybe.

Yeah, I wouldn't like to be dependant on frequent cuts. I'm totally negligent as it is.

Personally, I like mine long, even if it does mean it is in a pony 90% of the time (and it is). Because then I can still pull it down when I want it to be feminine and pretty. I'm still a sucker for having pretty hair, even if I am way too old for it to matter. ;)

Mine has been pixied twice in my life, but growing it back out was the least fun ever.

Can y'all post some pictures? I don't know anyone with a pixie in real life and I don't trust what it looks like on models, you know?

I'm usually the one behind the camera, but I did dig up these ones from two years ago. (I hope this works.)

Kinsa you look great with pixie! I have to admit a bit of jealousy. I would wear a pixie if I could. I just look awful. I tried it once in college and it was so easy from day to day. The amount of time you save each day is way more than the time it takes to get a trim. (At least for me)

If I looked like kinsa with a pixie, I'd have cut it already!

The only thing truly keeping me from the scissors is my kids. A friend's mom got a really short cut that aged her about a decade and my kids have asked that I not do that. Personally I don't care about looks quite so much, I just don't want to endure the grief from my children!

I just can't believe I went throught the pain of growing it out ( again), just to cut it off.. Again.

If you want manageable but longer, so you don't' have to get it cut as often, talk to your stylist about some in-between options. She/he might have some that cold work for you.

I hate the in-between stage. I also hate hair in my face. (and it's hot on my neck)   I finally decided short hair was more hassle than long hair (frequent cutting, etc.) - though it was a pain to deal with that middle stage.

have you tried a 'half-up/half-down'?

I'm in the same boat. My hairstylist cut my hair way too short. I hated how I looked so I've been growing it out for 2 years now. I did have a couple of inches cut off since I'm trying to grow my bangs out so my hair will be all one length. My bangs are down to my chin now. I just don't know what to do with my hair next. I switch from leaving in down to wearing it up.

I love pixie cuts and had one for a long time. I remember a few years ago MmV posted pictures of her gorgeous girls with pixie cuts. (Another poster was upset her daughter wanted have short hair, and MmV posted her beautiful daughters.) And Karen (Kinsa) you look amazing with your pixie cut.

I would love a pixie, but two things hold me back.

1. I sorta look like a dude. :p  A dude that sorta looks like my dad...

2. I have a super-strong center part (I've worn my hair parted in the middle for 30 years...don't know how that'd transfer to a pixie).

I always love when people can do it well!

I've gone from pixie to bob to pixie to bob to longer bob to shorter bob to pixie for decades. It's a constant back and forth.

I too am in the "I love my hair in a pixie but hate getting it cut" club.

Last pixie I didn't even mean to grow out but I got busy.

I kind of stalk Robin Wright's hair & mine recently went from something like this

 http://www3.pictures.stylebistro.com/gi/28th+Annual+Lucille+Lortel+Awards+Arrivals+r42eC4CYSZ4l.jpg to

http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/624/cpsprodpb/9DA1/production/_89735304_insightdialoguesrw1.jpg

pretty much through lack of making time to get a stylist appointment.

Now it's just long enough that it could be a Phryne Fisher mini bob. I dunno. I do love a messy bedhead bob too & it is just so much easier to maintain than a pixie so I probably will stay here for a bit.

Speaking of bobs, this is what my hair looks like now. Like I said above, I've been growing out the pixie cut for almost a year. I just got this style about two weeks ago.

Front:

Back:

Side, tucked behind my ear:

And this is the style I'm not liking too much. I'm going to get it cut differently next time, but I'm not yet sure how. Maybe back to the pixie cut.

Kinsa, I don't want to hurt your feelings but you looked awesome in the pixie and more... momish in that longer cut.  I feel you looked younger and more perky with the pixie.  Just my opinion (although I also can rock a pixie)!  Good luck in all hair matters!

I went pixie short this summer and I *love* it so very much. I was worried it wouldn't look good on me but now I don't even care. I love it tons.

This is the best photo I have but the top is just as short as the sides. I don't style it as often now as compared to when I first got it it. I have cut it once since I got it. But I cut it short enough that I hate it for a week and then it is perfect for almost 2 months. :)

Maybe this will work:

xixstar, I love how your baby has the exact same expression on his/her face as you do. So cute!

I tried once to do a pixie. Never again. It looked awful on me. I keep mine about chin length and only get it cut about every 6 months. I sort of envy you who look so fab with a pizie. And Kinsa, the pixie cut seemed more flattering. Your hair color is gorgeous!

I really relate to this. I've gotten a pixie cut twice, but times when my kids were about 2 years old and I was tired of them pulling on my hair. Here's an example of me with a pixie cut two years ago:

I love the easy maintenance, and I'm always complimented on it, but DH has never been a big fan, and I'm of two minds about how it looks. sometimes I like it, sometimes I think it's not feminine enough. Inevitably I get tired of it and end up growing it out to about shoulder length. Here's an example of that.

I like the way this looks for the most part, but I hate to do anything with my hair outside of washing and brushing it, so I find myself wondering if I should just get it cut again. We don't plan to add any more kids to the family, which means I'll never have another toddler regularly pulling on my hair and will probably keep it shoulder length, but sometimes I think longingly back to the pixie cut years.

  • 3 weeks later...

I love my hair short. My husband loves it too. But I hate getting haircuts all the time. I always get it cut, then end up not waiting way too long for the next cut. But then it drives me crazy so I cut it again. Unfortunately, this means most of the time my hair is in an awkward in between stage. Like right now.

I have a pixie cut. I love the ease of it, but hate that I look like my brother.  I make sure to wear earrings and occasionally makeup if I'm feeling very boyish.  Unfortunately my last cut got too short in the back, I hate the razored super short neckline. I don't know what my hair stylist was thinking that day, I always ask for a pixie with a fringe.

I had to get bangs. I have had a pixie and didn't want another one, but the hair in my eyes was driving me crazy. Thanks to Zoe Deschanel, bangs are ok again. But I have to straighten them so they don't look like 80's curled bangs.

Actually, I just wish I could buzz cut my hair like a guy and be done with it. But that's just not socially acceptable and I'm not brave enough to just do it anyway.
