PeacefulChaos Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 I've asked this before and here I am, asking again. :P  Has anyone done the DNA testing/profiling that you can get done? I know Ancestry . com does it and I think it's 23andme? Any opinions? Which one is more recommended? How are they different? Are the costs similar? I've just always wanted to do one. 50% of my family lineage is a big question mark, so I can't help but be curious. TIA! Quote
Spryte Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 We used Family Tree DNA. They give a ton of info, with all the fun stuff - maps and goodies. We regularly get emails about more "matches" and can connect with those people. Love it. We did it about 12 years ago, but at the time the info from FTDNA was more detailed than ancestry.com. No idea about now. My doc is having me do 23andme for medical reasons. Quote
momacacia Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 I think.ancestry is cheaper and.focuses on more detailed Ancestry. Go figure. ;) My mom had that done and got ancestry percentages. I think 23andme is more focused on health issues. We've had one of those done, but in the interim time when 23 was.giving less health info than they are now (per the FDA). They connect more dots healthier now and you can submit for $5 or so to other apps which will give you even more info. It was helpful for the issues I was researching...mthfr, etc, and other things popped up as well which make sense with other bloodwork I've done. Quote
