lgliser Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I was wondering how long people usually use CLE math. When I first started homeschooling, I figured I'd pick the right curriculum for each subject and see it through until 12th grade. (HA)!!! So we've used CLE for 2 years now and I like it a lot. But do most people use it all the way through middle school? High school? Or is something else better? (I posted this on the k-8 board too). My kids will be starting 4th grade this year (5th grade CLE math)... so obviously I'm just thinking ahead. Quote
OneStepAtATime Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 The light unit version only goes through Algebra 1 and the pre Algebra is actually the 700 and 800 series so it would normally cover two years. Therefore some jump ship before the 700 series because they want only one year of pre Algebra or they want the same source for Algebra I and Algebra II. However, I have seen several successfully combine 700 and 800 into one year or just do the 700's and moved on to Algebra 1 without too much hassle and others who felt that an in depth 2 year prealgebra program was great preparation for Algebra I. There have been several who have used CLE through Algebra I then moved to another math program for higher maths with great success. The company is working on a light unit version for Algebra II but no guarantees as to when it will be complete. Quote
G5052 Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 We used CLE through pre-algebra because they only had the Light Unit version of Algebra I in draft when we hit that. You have to watch how you plan high school math because of differences in pacing and emphasis. We had a bit of trouble after that, but found our way. It was more about finding a curriculum that they could work with, not gaps from CLE. My older one did Saxon the whole way, and my younger one ended up with other choices after Saxon Algebra I. Both went from CLE 700 to Saxon Algebra 1/2. Quote
