Epicurean Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 This guy is bringing back a rare species of butterfly to San Francisco, just as a hobby. Link. If you live in the area, you can help his conservation efforts by weeding, not using pesticides, and planting the butterflies' only source of food, the California pipevine. It brings to mind Ben Franklin's maxim, "What good have I done this day?" And it's a reminder that even one person can make a huge difference, just by finding something they're passionate about and dedicating themselves to improving the world. I'd love to be able to work on an ambitious but worthy project like this with my kids someday! 10 Quote

Dmmetler Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) This is awesome! And, FWIW, there is starting to be a groundswell, at least in the herp community, that there needs to be more connection between the herp enthusiasts-the breeders, the snake keepers, the field herpers who keep life lists of species-and the research Herpetologists, zoologists, and ecologists. And this project is exactly the reason why. Citizen science can make a major difference, especially in conservation. Edited July 8, 2016 by dmmetler 1 Quote
