Keen tennis shoes......do they hold up as well as the sandals do?

I love the keen sandals.  I was just wondering if the keen brand tennis shoes hold up as well for boys as the sandals do.  My new 8 year old is extremely hard on his shoes and I want something quality that will last.

When I'm not in laceless converse odds are good that these are on my feet:

I've had the same basic shoe in different colors over the last 7 or so years. I'm on my third pair, getting ready to buy my fourth. I generally do A LOT of hiking and exercising so that's a pretty good track record for me. Similarly priced trail runners or light hikers generally lasted me just under a year before I started buying the Keen Targhees. I destroyed a pair of Solomans in like 3 months.

We have had great luck with all of the Keen shoes I have bought dd9.  She has wide, thick feet so they are usually a great option for her.  I too, have a pair of the black leather and wear it daily to work.  They have held up great and while the sole is starting to show some wear (I have a back issue and drag my foot sometimes), the uppers are still in great shape. Even the kids canvas shoes have lasted great.  Keen makes shoes like they are intended to be used and abused.  They are not designed to be disposable, and thrown away in less than a year like a lot of shoes. She has had only one pair of the tennis shoe style, but it lasted just as well as everything else.

DD9 can destroy a pair of regular tennis shoes in a season, but her keens always make it to the resale shop when she is done with them.  To be fair, at 9yo, she is already 5'1" and in a woman's size 9, so a single size has never fit her for more than 2 seasons.
