lindsey Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 We started BA 3A June 1st, and we're starting the last chapter now. This is faster than I was expecting to get through it...we have done a couple of the extra pages available online, like for the trickier sections...should we do more? Is this just what it's like to not have a lot of review problems to do? We're totally new at this, so I just want to make sure we haven't rushed through it...my 8yo loves to read ahead in the text, and usually does a few pages of problems a day. He basically works on his own and stops when he wants to--then I go through and let him know if he missed any and if he did, they're either silly mistakes he figures out on his own, or for the starred problems sometimes we work them together (especially the toothpick problems, lol). Do you do anything additional or just move on to 3B? Thanks! Quote
Guest Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 You're doing it right. Just make sure you do every problem though. Some sections might be harder than others, but as long as your DS is working at his own pace, it's perfect. Move on :) Quote
Targhee Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 We average 3 pages a day. The kids work on DreamBox too, because it is usually on a different topic and serves as review/reinforcement. Also, if your child is working confidently I suggest you have them work independently (struggle through the double stars without your help). The AOPS approach is that this struggle IS the learning process. Some BA books will move faster, others slower. 2 Quote
LEK Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 We work on it for a set time daily (about 30-45 minutes depending on difficulty and frustration levels). Some days she gets through 6 or more pages independently (I believe the max was 10 in half an hour!) and other days it takes 30 minutes to complete one page with my help. I let her work at her own pace, we got through BA3A in about a month and same with 3B. We are using BA as a supplement only and alternate about 1 month to each book. She is also using prodigy math most days. Quote
lindsey Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 Thanks all. I'm going to 'review' with some of the printables, and I've gotten better (since the first chapter) about letting him struggle some. I just expected it to be more like 2-3 months, but I'm glad he enjoys it. :) Quote
