I love the teacher my oldest goes to for World History/Lit. She is amazing and I do not have to worry about that subject at all. He loves the class. She makes it engaging. They do papers and speeches and everything. Also, it is relatively low in cost, so fits my budget.

My only qualm is, my son loves this class so much, he is already reading the books I have bought. Great you say! I agree! I have not purchased all the books so there is plenty more to be read. And he gets to do speeches and papers there. yay! I really like this class. And this is the end. Not like he can take the class the next year if I drop it now and change my mind.

My issue...son loves this class so much that he still reads the books on the side. So he will get this education regardless. I do not think I could get him to take the tests or write the papers or give the speeches at home. I do not think that is 100% necessary, it is just a good thing. Thing is, son has Aspergers. He tends to obsess and have a hard time switching gears. So right now, he loves and is really throwing himself in to, world history, piano, and karate. He used to really be in to Latin and I am sure he will get back to it.

He hates doing science. He shrugs his way through math. He is well ahead of grade level in math, so I am not worried about him getting behind. He is not ahead in science.

I am thinking the best plan is to let him do this year of the history and lit and then after that, spend the next year focusing on STEM. But a big part of me wants to move on from World History and try to immerse this next year in STEM. But I am also unsure how I can make science fun. I enjoy science myself. All the outsourced science classes seem to be outside of my budget.

How would you move forward? Do the second half of history since he enjoys it and he writes papers and gives speeches and the practice of being in a class? Or, know he will get the know get the knowledge, and try to make a bigger go of science and drop the history to give more space to science? I guess in reality, we could try to carve out a set time to do science and still get through it. Maybe if I set down a set time each day.

I'd continue with the class for the reasons you listed and I clipped above.  History, lit, writing papers, giving speeches, and the personal interactions in class are all really important.  You said the math is going well.  Even for science, all those things are at least as important as science classes in high school.  And he loves the class.
