Accountability Thread: 7/3-7/9

Recommended Posts

First full week of July and I think I'll skip it. For school, anyway. I haven't quite decided yet, but I've got writing camp, and extra day of work and cleaning up to do. No school today for sure.

I really need to sit down at some point and decide what I'm going to purchase for fall this month. I've got to get Latin, French and Science, but I think that's about it. So maybe I'll plan this week!

We're doing school this week because we'll have a two-week break the last week of July and the first week of August. I just ordered the next couple of Life of Fred books because DD has been saying she misses "Freddie." I was having her do them well behind her level as review, and thought she didn't care for them all that much. Apparently I was wrong. I just ordered Liver and Mineshaft, so all that's left to get are Fractions and Decimals & Percents before she's caught up to the Pre-Algebra 0 book that she hated - maybe once she's gone through the others it will be easier.

I need to pick a new bedtime read-aloud. We finished The Porcupine Year last night, and I'm not quite ready to move on to Chickadee. Right now, I'm thinking Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes, Anna and the King of Siam or The Marvellous Land of Snergs, though I might pick something completely different when the time comes.

We went to our big family BBQ for the 4th yesterday and had a lot of fun. Today we are heading out to our new rental to do some painting, hang new blinds and do a little extra cleaning. The rest of this week will be spent on packing and getting stuff ready to move.

DD got through math and English in record time today (with no mistakes!), finished her literature book and we all watched the new Independence Day movie. DH didn't want to grill (he got super sunburned mowing the lawn Saturday) so we're having oven-roasted hot dogs for dinner, LOL.

Dd is sick! We got through our weekend out of town but she is officially sick. No math got done. Or piano practice. I really hope she's up to it tomorrow. We'll see.

Ds is counting down the days til he turns 5. I think he fully intends to do a reading lesson on his birthday. He is so excited to learn to read. :)

Dd is feeling better today. She did math, piano practice, and made it to her piano lesson!

We are adding math to the weekends and doubling up a handful of easy lessons and review lessons. We are sooooo behind and we talked about it today. She decided she wants to do math on the weekends for the next 6 weeks and have 2 weeks completely off school before starting 3rd grade. The other option was 2nd grade math goes right up to the 1st day of 3rd grade with no break. I am glad she chose the option she did. She'll be refreshed for 3rd grade with a little break.

Ds and I had a little education conference today as well. ;) He wants to start learning to read on his 5th birthday. However, I don't want to officially start school until after Labor Day. So he agreed that we can start reading lessons on his birthday and work on them for 15 minutes a day through the rest of the summer and after Labor Day, we'll have our first day of school with all the expected traditions, add math, morning time learning, FIAR, and tag along with dd's science.

Whew! I think I've finally settled all the scheduling issues today! I need a drink!

DD is still working super hard on her routines - JO is only 3 weeks away! As an extra incentive, I promised her a trapeze lesson for every event she places in the top three in. I don't know if that will actually happen, but her motivation has skyrocketed.

School-wise, still plugging along, although tomorrow is another 4 hour tumbling clinic, so no schoolwork.

Today is a double math lesson. But she loves fractions and whizzes through them so it should be no problem. (This is not my kid, lol!) We'll work on that and piano this afternoon. I'm spending the morning doing housework and planning for this coming school year.

We are stuck inside due to thunderstorms. I may set out the play dough supplies to combat rainy day blues.
