Has anyone used this course? If so could you please share your experience with it? Did the questions / disccussions seem canned, as in basically the same thing for each book?

Can you compare it to Excellence in Literature?

Have you googled illuminating literature welltrained mind. I think you'll come up with some threads that way--or at least find folks you can pm. I know some have used it and I am planning to--but not for another year.

From looking at the samples, it has author background like EIL. EIL does not have questions, but does have papers about each book, where Illuminating does not--unless you require the project to be a paper.

Also from the sample it seems to me there is such s variety of questions and many are about the lit device or issues in the book, so I doubt they'd be canned--but again, I haven't used it yet.

I have no experience with it, but I went and checked out the sample.

It's not something I personally would use. For starters, I wouldn't be able to get past the overly peppy and casual tone.

Some of the writing is just weird, imo, like this: By the way, heroine with an “e†is a female hero; heroin without the “e†is an illegal drug. It’s unfortunate that the two words are so similar in spelling. What do you think a female hero should be called? That's basically begging teenagers to go off on a lengthy tangent that has nothing to do with literature class, lol.

And sometimes the writing is just lazy, as in page after page of bullet points, or the overuse of both italics and exclamation points.

I don't care for the book choices as a whole.

The teacher's guide makes it clear that all the literature read is meant to be viewed through a biblical lens, so one would have to be very comfortable that their idea and interpretation of the bible matches the author's.

At a glance, I'm not sure I'd consider it high school level, but I couldn't say that for sure.
