DawnM Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) I will have a couple of days with an afternoon or longer to go places. I thought we could pop over to the Ford Museum, as the last time we went it was $12 or so each. Holy smokes, it is so expensive now! I am not sure we have enough time to really get our money's worth. We are staying in Livonia, if that matters. Not sure my kids would be interested in Motown, but maybe if it isn't too expensive. I read that there is a Holocaust Museum. Is it anything like the one in DC or LA? We have been to both of those, but not for a long time. Our boys are teens, so a children's museum won't be of interest anymore. Thanks. AmyontheFarm Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Do you want to cross the border into Windsor?? I live outside of Windsor and would happy to come meet up with you! ;) http://alphamom.com/family-fun/activities/50-things-to-do-with-kids-around-detroit-before-they-grow-up/ 1 Quote
umsami Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) Yes to the DIA! There also is a historical museum downtown that I used to enjoy. Cranbrook as well has a science and art museum. Not too far away from Pontiac...maybe 20 minutes max. Fox Theater is beautiful if there is anything showing there that interests you. Any desire to drive up to Ann Arbor and explore? It's a fun college town...should take you about an hour or so. If you're going to be near Pontiac, Birmingham is not too far and is a nice area for shopping, lunch, etc. There's Greektown and Detroit is also a wonderful place for Arabic food. If you're there in the Fall, I recommend the Franklin Cider Mill for yummy cider and donuts. Oh....and if you like zoos, the Detroit Zoo is very nice IMHO. Foodwise, if you go to Ann Arbor, stop by Zingermans Deli. Stop by a Coney Island (hot dogs).... you'll see diners called So and So's Coney Island. Try a piece of Sander's Bumpy Cake and definitely try the Sander's Milk Chocolate Hot Fudge topping. Vernor's and Faygo are two Detroit brands of soda pop. (Michigan is "pop" territory.) Michigan is home to Little Caesar's and Dominos, but there is also a square pizza phenomenon. Edited July 1, 2016 by umsami 1 Quote
DawnM Posted July 1, 2016 Author Posted July 1, 2016 No lunch and shopping, 4 BOYS, remember? Haha We are driving up now, don't have all of our documents with us to enter Canada. I will look at the other suggestions, Thanks Quote
BigMamaBird Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) There's a pizza place in Downtown near (or in, maybe) Greektown that has amazing deep dish pizza. I want to say it's called Pizza Papolis? If you have four boys with you it might be worth a visit! Edited July 1, 2016 by BigMamaBird 1 Quote
Ottakee Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 My friends went to Belle Isle last year with their family and it was very cheap or free and they all enjoyed it. 1 Quote
FaithManor Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 The DIA is only 8 or 10 dollars and worth every penny. Cranbrook Institute...not sure what their summer exhibits are so check their website. Ford River Rouge tours are fascinating. Not sure about price though. DSO summer concert series in the park is awesome - Oakland University Amphitheater. But it might be pricey. We went last year for. Star Wars concert. Maestro conducted with a light saber dressed as Princess Leah. 1 Quote
