frugalmamatx Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Working on lesson plans for this fall, and I'm trying to come up with a list of US history based fiction books that will go along with Lifepac Grade 5 history. These will function as our reading program for the year as well. I'm pulling from Sonlight's list a lot, but I'm sure there are other books out there I've not heard of. FWIW, dd is a fairly strong & fast reader so as long as the content isn't too mature books geared older would work as well. She will have about a week to read each book, on her own time, and I'm looking for 3-4 books for each section. The sections are: A New World {Exploration of America, Colonies, Conflict with Britain, Birth of the USA} A New Nation {Rev. War, Life in Early America, New form of Government, US Early years} Time of Testing {Louisana Purchase, War of 1812, Sectionalism, Improvements in Trade / travel} Growing nation {Andrew Jackson, Texas & Oregon, Mexican War, pre-Civil War} Divided Nation {Civil War, Reconstruction, Gilded Age} Changing Nation {Spanish-American War, WWI, 1920's} Depression and War {Great Depression, WWII} Cold War {Korean War, Vietnam War, Civil Right Movement} New Millennium {Watergate, Fall of Communism, Persian Gulf, 1990's} I've come up with a few books, but am hoping the Hive can help me find more.
