My fire is struggling. It freezes every few pages (says Kindle is not responding) and now the battery is going quick. It was at 100% this morning and I read for about 20 minutes and it's down to 70%.

I don't want another Fire. I never use it for anything except reading, so I'm thinking a paperwhite or a voyage.

Anyone have experience with either of these? Recommendations?

I've had a Paperwhite for years. Love it.

If I had to replace it, I would want the Voyage (better font, better lights, physical buttons to turn the page) but I would not pay the $100 difference.

DS10 loves the voyage a lot more than the paperwhite. He reads in the mall while we shop for our kids clothes to prepare for the next growth spurt.

I can't tell the difference because I seldom use either. DS10 however has astigmatism and is nearsighted, so if he feels his voyage is better, then his paperwhite can stay unused.

DS11 prefers books but would use his voyage for ebooks if we run out of books. He would also use his kindle, ipad to read ebooks. So he really doesn't care as long as there are books to read.

I have had a Paperwhite and voyage (and keyboard back in the day). I use my Kindle all the time, so I knew it would be something I'd make a lot of use out of. I upgraded to a Voyage from my Paperwhite because of the buttons. I hated holding it with my left hand and having to move my finger all the way to the other side of the screen to turn the page. It was worth it for me to have the buttons. It is also faster, which wasn't a huge deal, but is nice. And I like that there is no ledge from the screen to the side of the Kindle. Dust used to get stuck there and bothered me. But mostly I got the Voyage for the buttons.

The Paperwhite is really nice and for most people, what I would recommend. It is totally worth it to get a Paperwhite rather than a Kindle Touch, for example. But I liked the features of the Voyage and had birthday money from my in-laws and wanted it. :)

Thank you! I'm leaning toward the Voyage. I have some amazon gift cards that I got for Christmas and my birthday that I've been saving for something nice when the opportunity came up, so I could buy either. I have the Fire HDX right now and it's fine for books, well until the issues started cropped up. I don't use any apps or the browser, and I miss being able to read in the sunlight like I could with my old kindle.

My husband and I both have the Voyage.  I REALLY like physical page turn buttons so I didn't really want a paperwhite, despite the backlight. I was glad when they came out with the Voyage.  I spent Christmas money to buy it because yes, it is more expensive. But my last Kindle lasted 3 years (And actually is not broken yet. My nephew uses it now) and I use it LOTS so I am okay with the price.  My husband is left handed and I am right handed and the Voyage works for both of us.

I prefer using my phone, but I have a large screen.  I love having my book at all times without bringing an extra device.  I take my phone everywhere so I always have my book if I find myself waiting somewhere.

I have a Paperwhite and love it, but like a couple pps have said, if money wasn't an issue, I'd much rather have the Voyage because of the buttons!

I'm not a big fan of the touchscreen, but I could afford a Paperwhite so that's what I got last summer.  I adjusted to those touch screens pretty quickly and love being able to read late at night without turning on any lights.

My mom, otoh, is never going to be allowed a Kindle with a touch screen ever again.  She got so frustrated trying to "turn a page" [according to her it wasn't that she was touching the wrong place on the screen......it was that the Kindle was wrong] she ended up throwing her Kindle across the patio claiming "This **** thing is out to get me!!".  I sent her a refurbished old Kindle with the tabs a day later.

Honestly, the touch screen isn't that bad.  I just can't, on my meager budget,  justify almost $100 more to have buttons.

Actually, I often have the problem of the screen not recognizing my finger for some reason. I know to just keep trying. But yeah, it does happen sometimes and is irritating. I'd much prefer the buttons, but like you said, not for that price difference.

Thank you! Thanks to me hoarding amazon gift cards, I have enough for either with $$ left over. Yay for hoarding!

I ordered the Voyage and am excited. I am used to the touch screen swiping from years of using a Fire, but I did miss the buttons from my original kindle. The Voyage seemed to have better ratings for reading outside which I can't do right now with my Fire, so that'll be really good!
