Hilltopmom Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Not the Safety First brand, I remember those being pretty cheap & not sturdy. Youngest toddler is a climber & we need to anchor our non- built in shelves & dressers. Thanks:) Quote
idnib Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Maybe it's an earthquake country thing, but here in CA you can buy high-quality ones at Home Depot. They're not specifically for the "kids' safety" market, but for the "wow, the ground is really moving!" market. 3 Quote
Arcadia Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 The ones for earthquake proofing furniture sold at Home Depot and probably at Lowes too are good. Our Ikea furniture came with anchoring hardware. If yours are from Ikea, you can ask for free from their customer service. 1 Quote
Hilltopmom Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 Not IKEA, although them being in the news today did remind me to order some. Thanks, I'll see if we have them at our Lowes, not in earthquake country though. Quote
momof4inco Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 They have them at Babies R Us, not just the Safety 1st brand. They were similar to these that they sell at Home Depot, just not intended for earthquakes http://www.homedepot.com/p/QuakeHOLD-White-Furniture-Safety-Strap-4164/100205434 . Quote
Arcadia Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 If you happen to have a piano, be careful about the piano lid because kids (my relatives) lifted the lid and slam their fingers. My nephews all love climbing up my piano as toddlers and sitting on top clapping their hands  my kids did that too. My youngest niece is a drawer opener. She sees drawers she pulls them open. We have to rearrange contents to high up cabinets. Luckily she doesn't climb. Quote

Rachel Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 My husband has anchored shelves and a dresser using an L shaped metal bracket from the hardware store. I'd go to a hardware store and ask what is available. Quote
Miss Peregrine Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 We just use the L-shaped brackets mentioned above. Quote
gardenmom5 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 (edited) Dh uses plumbers tape. The metal type for attaching things to walls. It has periodic holes for screwing to the wall. We're in earthquake country. I added a link - not sure of the size/guage he uses. I linked to one generically. Edited June 29, 2016 by gardenmom5 Quote
