gr8b8m8 Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Hello! I'm trying to accelerate my math track by doing Geometry over the summer. As of now, I have 50 days until the Regents exams. Will I be able to complete AoPS Geometry in that timeframe, and if so, how much time should I spend per day? Alternatively, should I use a different curriculum? Quote
Julie of KY Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I would say that very few people would be able to do AoPS in that timeframe. Geometry is a big book and even if you already knew all the material, it'd be challenging to just do the review problems in 50 days. If you are learning the material, it takes time to process the amount and depth of material in the book. I'd recommend doing something else for your test prep. 1 Quote
regentrude Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 No, I of do not believe it is possible to work through AoPS Geometry in that little time. You would have to skip a lot of material and could work only a very small fraction of the problems. Some individual problems have taken us up to two hours (and I do have a background in advanced math). If you are learning the material, you should use a different curriculum. Quote
wapiti Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Not with AoPS. You would not have time for the depth. Here are a few possible helps: http://www.nysedregents.org/geometry/ http://www.glencoe.com/sec/math/geometry/ca/ca_05/pdfs/gcasgw_SE_6232.pdf http://www.glencoe.com/sec/math/geometry/geo/geo_04/standardized_test/index.php/na http://www.regentsprep.org/regents/math/geometry/formulasheetgeometry.pdf Even if you succeed in passing the Regents Geometry exam at the end of the summer, I'd encourage you to work through the geometry topics in Alcumus at a later date. 1 Quote
LisaKinVA Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Well, I suppose it depends on how much time you're devoting to it every day, and your general aptitude for math/Geometry. If you worked 6 hours a day for the next 50 days, I'm sure it's possible, assuming you don't do the very challenging problems. You might be better off with something that is a bit more straightforward. Quote
Arcadia Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 If your aim is to do well enough for the NY Regents to test out of geometry, the aops geometry book wouldn't be the best use for that purpose. I would look at what wapiti linked upthread for test prep and go through the aops geometry as enrichment. The aops geometry book can be completed in 50 days if you dedicate your awake hours to it. Just that it is not the best way to prep for Regents. The aops geometry book would be better as a foundation prep for AMC and AIME. Quote
