I have 4 credits on Audible that need to be used before we cancel our subscription.

I would like classic books that are easier to hear than read. (Written with accents, etc) We really enjoy hearing Winnie-the-Pooh in an authentic British voice, for instance. We are enjoying Black Beauty right now.

Kids are 10, 7, and almost 3.

If there are really good books that will go along with our studies, I would be open to those too. We are in Tapestry of Grace Year 1, Unit 3. In August we will start CC Cycle 2.

Robin Hood (we like Pyle's version)

Oh yes, we liked Robin Hood as well! Also the Legends of King Arthur.

If your kids get a kick out of kind of gross stuff, they might like the Norse Legends as well. We couldn't hear them all that well because my kids kept going, eww! eww! eww!

By gross, I just mean stuff like the gods creating ogres with balls of sweat and dwarves from maggots.

Harry Potter. Even if all the kids cannot listen for a while. Jim Dale is AMAZING.

We also enjoyed Three Times Lucky and the subsequent books. Bomb is an all time favorite here.

For adults, To Kill a Mockingbird is brilliant. I'm thoroughly enjoying The Wright Brothers.

The dramatized chronicles of Narnia is very good.

Also, How to Train Your Dragon.

Maybe various Shakespeare plays?

I Am Malala. I doubt I could have read it with all the unfamiliar names and places, but it was an excellent audiobook.

We also have several collections of poetry that my girls enjoy. Favourite Poems for Children and Classic Poems for Girls are their favorites atm.

E.B. White read his own books and we love his Charlotte's Web. We'd probably love his others too if we had them.

D'aulaires Book of Greek Myths.

The Sheep Pig (book Babe is based on)

Paddington

The Complete Beatrix Potter

And of course, Harry Potter.

(these are all ones that we currently have on Audible, so they should be available)

Greek Myths by D'allaire is a good audiobook... don't have to worry about the crazy names!

I second anything by Howard Pyle.  So much easier to listen to than read aloud!

I couldn't have done Wind in the Willows on my own... definitely an audiobook choice!  I think Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland will be similar for me...

Doesn't fit your criteria, but the best audio rendering of a book I've heard so far was By the Great Horn Spoon.  This book is fun no matter how you read/listen/read-aloud, but it was a particularly good audio-book.

I just listened to the sample of Sorcerer's Stone.  :001_tt1:

I may need to keep accruing credits after all to buy Harry Potter books. ;)

I wanted to point out something I learned that you may already now.  For old classics, like Secret Garden, you can get the Kindle book, usually free or $3 or less.  Then add the narration.  It's the same Audible book.  That way, you can most for $5 or less.  Tom Sawyer would be another I used that on.  Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, etc.

All of EB White's books read by him are great.  I love the Little House books on Audio because the songs are sung and fiddle music is added. (We get those at the library, though.)

Here are some books I might get on Audible because I can not manage to get through them reading (so maybe they aren't that good?) - Wheel on the School, The Borrowers, Farmer Boy.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz narrated by Anne Hathaway is fantastic.

Peter Nimble and his Fabulous Eyes was also a fantastic audiobook. I told my husband that I probably would not have enjoyed just reading it to the kids as much as I enjoyed listening to it. It isn't a classic and the ending may be too scary (there is a battle and some characters are hurt or die) for some kids so you may want to read some reviews. My kids aren't terribly sensitive so even my three year old loved it.

We listened to Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes 2-3 years ago (my 12 yr old and I) and we recently re-listened to it with my 8 yr old. Great narration! My older son just turned 15 yesterday and he got a copy of Sophie Quire and the Last Storyguard: A Peter Nimble Adventure, which is new. We enjoyed reading The Night Gardener (also by Jonathan Auxier) as well ... but yeah, the narration really enhances Peter Nimble.

Not a classic, but set in the 1870's in Britain complete with governess -- The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place series.  We love them.  British accent, howling sound effects, references to classical education.  We are really enjoying them!
