EKT Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 We have been using WWE from the beginning, and I love it. My girls do really, really well with it. I feel confident that WWE is teaching them to be strong academic writers, which is very important to me. I also love that we just get it done everyday because it is completely open-and-go. HOWEVER, the Brave Writer lifestyle definitely suits my spirit and my overall philosophy of homeschooling; there's an element of whimsy and fun to it that I think my homeschool has been lacking and I know my girls would love to incorporate more project-based writing. (To be clear, I haven't actually tried Brave Writer yet, but I am going to read TWJ this summer.) My question is, is anybody combining these two programs together successfully? I want both, but I feel like it's a lot of moving parts. (Plus, we also use AAS and FLL....) If you use both, I'd love to hear how to combine them. Thanks for any advice! Quote
desertflower Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 My 7 1/2 yo uses WWE and BW. In all fairness, we just started jot it down. I like both for different reasons. He also does AAS and MCT. So, how do we use them all? I implement BW throughout the week. Like you said it's a lifestyle. There's so much to BW. There's freewrite (once every 2 weeks) and poetry tea time. (Just started memorizing poems). JID projects are about a month long. We just did one and even though it didn't take long (one afternoon ), it's something they can continue to do for a year or so. We have done 1 arrow. I plan on doing 3 more. I skip anything that is redundant like copy work. MCT and AAS are usually done about 3 times a week. You can still do WWE as instructed. All these other programs are what has to be done many times a week. BW is something we can do when......we feel like it. It's like teaching ones kids the love of reading. You have to give instructions (my MCT, WWE, AAS programs), and we go to the library to check out books to have lying by the couch or to read to them or they read to themselves (BW). I hope I'm making sense. I plan on having a writing/art nook to bopefully implement the BW philosophy. That being said, please note, I have not read PW or TWJ yet. I plan on reading PW soon. Things may change once I read that. Hth. Quote
