Miss Peregrine Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 because of drift smoke from nearby fires. No air conditioning. UGH. Quote
zoobie Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 When our air went out during a heat wave, we slept under damp sheet tents and strong fans. It sucked. Hope you get relief soon. Quote
frugalmamatx Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Strong fans, cold showers right before bed, and sleep in as little as possible. Also wet kitchen towels and freeze them to use as cool down packs on the back of your neck. We do it every summer :( 1 Quote

happymom4 Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 You might not survive this. Quick! Make a bucket list and then complete everything on it between 5am-8am. Godspeed! :driving: Okay, that wasn't helpful at all but thats how my brain works at this time of night  2 Quote

I'm only up now because I was too warm from the cat sleeping with me. Quote
4arrows Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Oh.my. I can't even imagine. You have my most profound sympathy. Quote
Eliz Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 You have my sympathy!!!! I don't do well in the heat and I live in Texas. Wet top sheets and pajamas in the refrigerator before bedtime help. I go to bed almost every night in the summer with a wet cloth even though we have A/C. Is there anyway you could invest in a window unit / portable A/C unit for one room or would that draw in smoke? A few years ago, we didn't have working A/C and no money to repair it. I bought a single window unit for one of the rooms. We lived in that room for an entire summer. I hope your situation improves very soon! Quote

Yep, and further south than you as well. 3rd summer with no a/c :( This one truly is a scorcher - I've been debating trying to swing a window a/c and the accompanying bills. Quote
SparklyUnicorn Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Anywhere you could go for the day? Maybe a mall or the library? 1 Quote

Just wait until August. It's miserable. That's why we school during the summer- who wants to be outside here from July-October?! Quote

You are one tough mamma! Hats off making three summers. I couldn't do it. Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 We had our ac go out earlier this summer (it has since been fixed), and we spent a good chunk of the day out. Our house would cool down at night, but by lunchtime it was super uncomfortable. We went to the library, or anywhere where we could hang out in the ac until the sun went down again. I would consider a single window unit (or the stand alone units with filters that vent out a window). It's a lot easier to all live in one room than to not have ac. Quote

Oh my. I'd be walking to Canada. I want to be a snowbird when I grow up to escape the heat in GA. Quote

Guest Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 I'm not listening to you!!!! 😊 On a happy note you won't age a bit down here. High humidity makes for happy no wrinkle skin as long as you use sunscreen!! :) Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 We turned off our ac in early November last year, and had it back on by late February. Welcome to Texas, where hibernation season is in the summer. On a happy note, our furnace is likely to last forever because it gets so little use. 1 Quote
purplejackmama Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 I'm hoping this assignment is short lived and we are off to the PNW to finish out the summer. (So that means hubby will be here for a year ;) ) 2 Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 I would love to be in the PNW too. It's in the mid-70s right now in Seattle. Quote
J&JMom Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 (edited) I am not good with the heat either, but I have signed up for my 5th consecutive summer camping with the Cub now Boy Scouts where I sleep for week in a tent with daytime highs hovering near 100. We leave Sunday. At least they have a/c (weak) in the dining hall where I will spend most of my day while the boys attend classes. I taught chess on purpose because it was indoors :p. I am currently typing this in my 74 degree house with a fan blowing in my face as paper towels soak up the sweat from under my menopausal *books*. Yep, Those merit badges better be worth it, boys. And it is :) Edited June 23, 2016 by J&JMom 1 Quote
patriciatx Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 I don't normally open our windows at all! Heat. Humidity. Bugs. Nope. Quote
