boscopup Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I don't know anything about the Touch, but my 7 year old has a Kindle Paperwhite. He shared one with his older brother last year at 6, and we finally ended the fighting (younger was hogging it) by getting him one for his birthday. :) Our libraries use Overdrive for ebooks, so they check out books all the time. Now this child is blasting through the Harry Potter series over and over again, but My 9 year old whose reading is not that advanced yet enjoys the Kindle also. Our English program uses public domain books for literature, and the 9 year old's assignment of Doctor Dolittle got him interested in all the other books in that series. :) The library also has Magic Tree House and other such things. 1 Quote
shawthorne44 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I am just waiting until DD5 is past wanting pictures to look at before getting her an e-reader. Our library has a nice selection of kid's ebooks. Plus, people have put a lot of effort into digitizing kid's public domain books. I know when I use the e-reader and I'm a little fuzzy on the meaning of a word I will look it up just by clicking on the word, and the installed dictionary will tell me what it means. But, getting up out of my comfortable position to physically look up a word I read in a physical book NEVER happened. I figure that is human nature. I'd like DD to know what a lot of words mean. Arcadia Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 My kids use Kindle Voyage. They prefer that to Kindle Paperwhite. We didn't need to buy any kindle books as we use Overdrive and Hoopla with our many library cards. Quote
