blue daisy Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 What did your kids read for school this past year? Or what are you planning to have them read next year? I love reading lists! :) (Please share age/grade level too). I haven't really started lists yet, but they're all doing ELTL so I'll start there. (Some of the books on those lists we recently read too.) Quote

Chrysalis Academy Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) And here is my 4th grader's reading log from last year. Her independent reading list is a lot shorter, but that's because she is really picky about books, and when she finds something she likes, she reads it over and over! So a lot of these she read 3 or more times. And I didn't list all the Rick Riordan books, which she re-reads obsessively, the way that dd13 did with Harry Potter at this age. 4th Grade Read Alouds – Fiction 1. mayath Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Wow, those are all really long lists! Great to see that kids are reading so much. I'm a high school English teacher, and I'm absolutely passionate about reading. We do a lot of family reading time, and often at meals, we'll all go around the table and share what we've been reading. Both my kids (DS age 11 and DD age 7) are avid readers as well. I'm trying to continue reading aloud to them despite their ability to read on their own, but it's often hard to find the time! But here are the read alouds we did last year, and here's my plan for summer read alouds: Over the school year: Flora and Ulysses I Lived On Butterfly Hill A Single Shard Listen, Slowly We loved all of them. I'm contemplating really stretching them a bit over the summer by reading something a bit older/more challenging to them: - Maybe a Dickens' novel like Oliver Twist? Suggestions welcome! I also want to get them to read more mythology from both East and West, and maybe read more historical fiction with them. 2 Quote
