I need recommendations for a hands on, very basic physical science course to be completed over the summer. I really like the science core curriculum I'm planning to use, but it's heavy on life sciences and I need to round it out a bit. I just want something to introduce things like matter, energy, simple machines and levers, etc. so my kids know a bit about the topics they will see on standardized tests.

Not a curriculum, but this book on simple machines was really fun for my kids. They liked all the movable parts, plus the story aspect.

For the rest, I would get the $5 PDFs of bfsu 1 and go through the a and c threads. Check out any relevant "read and find out science" books that your library has on hand and stick them in a basket for independent reading. Bfsu is here:
