My in-law are in their mid 70s and love traveling. We would like to take a cruise vacation in early January with them and our boys who will be 12 and 14 by then. If you have done something similar, would you share what it is like? Thanks!

I've been on cruises with my kids, and I've been on cruises with older folks, but not at the same time.

A cruise is a great vacation since you don't have to "get up and go" if you don't feel like it.  The food options are many and included, so no stress over that.  They have "camp" to keep the kids busy when you want to do something else (in my case, I had to work, and it was nice for them to have something fun and safe to do during that time).  There is plenty to do.

In my experience, cruises are the least stressful kinds of vacations.  I recommend them to all ages.

You are smart to go after Christmas.  The year we went to the Caribbean was in early December and it was awesome, but the month of December just flew by and Christmas came too quickly, If I could do it again, I would go in January or February, but it was my dh & I, my parents and our children and we had a great time.  Norwegian Epic!

We have gone on a Caribbean cruise (kids were 14 and 11) with my parents.  We had a blast.  My parents had never been on a cruise before.   The kids could go to the kids club, hang out together, or hang out with us.  We could go sit in different bars, lounges, parts of the ship etc and all be together, or go to our own room if anyone had enough of the togetherness.  There was enough varied entertainment to make everyone happy - Bingo, ballroom dancing lessons (my youngest did it with my mom, my dad and I were partners, the teenager just rolled his eyes and DH was happy to just sit with his beer and not have to dance), music, shuffleboard, lounging, or just plain old people watching.  We all really had a great time.
