We're looking at spending a weekend in Pittsburgh next month. We want to go to the zoo, aquarium, and natural history museum. What area should I be looking in for hotels? And if you have any specific hotel recommendations, I would love to hear them!

Also are there any other activities we absolutely shouldn't miss?

I don't have any hotel recommendations but we recently went to Pittsburgh and had a fabulous time. I would add riding on an incline, going to the Fort Pitt Museum for a reenactment, and a 3 Rivers cruise.

I'm not sure where you want to stay for those activities, but when we went to Pittsburgh a couple of years ago, we stayed in the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel in the downtown area and were happy with it. There is also a fabulous science museum in Pittsburgh.

Which dates will you be here?

For hotels, do you want convenient, or budget friendly?

The children's museum and aviary are next to each other, and often have admissions deals. You can easily do be in one day. My kids enjoyed the children's museum at ages older than you'd expect, it's not just for preschoolers.

Gateway clipper has river tours of varying lengths, some may even include lunch or dinner.

There is a ginormous Carnegie library next to the museum of natural history. It's beautiful, too.

Pancakes at Pamela's P&G Diner

We stayed at the Downtown Doubletree by Hilton. It was shabby and in desperate need of a renovation last summer, but the desk staff were nice. It's a great location for getting to the Pirates stadium. Right across the street is the little train and bam. My kids loved the science museum and Heinz museum. Take an incline!

Thanks! Those look great.

For hotels, I would like convenient, but budget-friendly is probably more important. We'll be there the third weekend in July.
