Meadowlark Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 I guess I'm specifically looking for feedback for grades 3 and 4. I'm considering using the English curriculum, but I have a few concerns. If you've had experience with the DL course at this level, I"m curious.... Did your child LIKE the lessons okay? I had my boys do the sample lesson for grade 3 (Mrs. Cox) and one liked it, but the other seriously disliked it. I have to admit, it seemed....slow? Hokey maybe? It had this whole story of sardines and the lesson was fish based. I guess being a "get er done" type of person, I found this a little hokey. But maybe..my kids would like it? It's hard to tell based on the one sample. I just know that I'm stretched pretty thin and this seems like a smart area to outsource. I would definitely get in on the $99 deal in December if they offer it. Quote
longfamily6 Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 I have used alot of BJU videos. They worked well for my oldest. He was very bright and anything would work for him and I had 4 younger ones so I needed it. Now what I can say is it was a complete bomb for 2 of my kids. One very bright with no attention span. It moved way to slow for him and he didn't listen to a thing. Then I have one that has comprehension issues and learns best 1 on 1. if you are busy and your child can focus well then I think they are a great option. if they have trouble focusing It would be a waste of your money. It will depend on your child Brenda Quote
chellesnead Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I've used it for those grade levels. I have to say that 4th grade is pretty poorly done. The teachers are kinda monotone and not very exciting. Reading was the only one my kids really liked, though I thought math was okay. English is SLOW! We have done 3rd grade math and reading not English so I can't say for sure. At the beginning of this year we started DL for reading, math, science, and Bible. All 4 of my kids (grades 2, 3, and 4) are still doing reading and only one is doing math. The videos just got to be very monotonous and they would beg not to do them, with the exception of the reading. They do really like the reading! Quote
Caia Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 One of my children completed 3rd grade this past year, and our favorite classes were Mrs. Walker's reading and Mrs. Vick's science. Mrs. Cox (the English teacher) and Mrs. Overly are also good teachers. It has been a couple of years since I have had a child in 4th grade, but our favorites were Miss Liston's reading (my son's favorite class that year) and Mrs. Vick's math. Heritage Studies and Science will have a new textbook and teacher for this year, and I am looking forward to viewing those. Mrs. Overly is the English teacher for this grade level. The English classes only last 15 minutes (I believe) compared to other classes like reading and math. I have one child who prefers to listen to the teacher and then do the lesson on his own while my other child would just prefer for me to teach the lesson. Quote
