Accountability Thread: 6/12-6/18

Recommended Posts

Good morning. I have no clue what I'm doing this week, but I'll probably have it figured out in an hour or so.

I expect the schedule for today will be:

French-Unit 15

Latin-keep working on lesson 22-that lesson is a long one, and worth spending time over

Math-some pretest or another, and we ought to finish up KTD book 1 today or tomorrow.

Shakespeare-read the play retelling again and pick some new spelling words for this week, and maybe all three of us will watch more of the play together.

For me: Housekeeping (linens day, chicken house cleaning, cat litter, general sweeping), French, Latin, Geometry, Writing (working on some world building today while the first draft cools off. Also thinking about beginning the brainstorming to see if there is a sequel or a prequel to the story that I might write.)

Mammogram-check

Music lesson-check

Review math lesson with other Ds-check

Watch DVD of Prince Caspian and complain about the fact that it does not follow the book-check, lol!

And we're done for the day, I have another appointment tomorrow and Ds will work at the fireworks stand for a bit to help pay for camp. I'm hoping to get math and some reading done with him at least.

Tuesday - Fractions are making this summer schedule longer than I had expected . . . I'm actually assigning a bit less work per day because of it but it is definitely something dd needs to work on.  She did another pre-test (for book 2) in decimals and aced it.  Well, she had a couple of addition mistakes but nothing conceptual.  Lit. is going very well indeed.

No school today. However, we watched part of A Midsummer Night's dream together, and chortled our way through with enthusiasm. I think both boys are kind of attached to Shakespeare now.

And both boys read parts of their latest stories aloud to me today. I am tickled to death at how well one boy is creating his "bad guy" to be a very understandable character--for all that he is a five foot raven.

We had VBS this morning.

DD1 - Completed lessons in WWE1, FLL1, Singapore 1B, ETC 3 (2 pages), ETC 4 (2 pages), WW3000 Grade 2

DD2 - Reading Eggs Lesson 31, Mathseeds Lesson 31, ETC 1 1/2 (1 page), Singapore Essentials A (3 pages)

We tried to read together, but failed. :-(. We did manage to get some laundry done and put away.

Morning critter!! Today we will be doing more of the writing 8's, we finally started yesterday and he could only get through D before his hand got tired. We'll do more daily until his stamina is built up, I will also start my 8yo on the exercises today, then reading and piano, probably a little math.

Friday - today has been a stressful day for all of us.  The big race day is tomorrow.  Dh didn't sleep.  Dd is forgetting everything.  Ds actually seems ok.  I'm dreading going to the race expo tonight in bad traffic to get the race packets.

Math - Fractions - went ok but she only did half of what I assigned.  I told her to forget the other half due to how today was going in general.  We'll do it on Monday.

Decimals - 9 x 9 = 81.  It does not equal 18.  This fact messed up a number of things today.

Lit. - this went fine.

We did nothing today at all, not even music practice. I did get my used copy of Challenge Math For the Elementary and Middle School student in the mail today and now I'm wondering exactly what was I thinking when I bought it? Those problems are hard, I'm thinking we'll use it for math on Friday, but just looking at the problems in that book made me break out in a cold sweat, lol. The explanations are great! Guess what? Even with those awesome explanations I still struggled with some of the problems especially those in the problem solving section. I think we'll do the level 1 problems first and then go through the book again next year doing the level 2 problems. I wouldn't dare buy the highschool level book, lol. Seriously, the problems are hard, but I'm looking forward to challenging/stretching myself and my Ds.
