Spryte Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 We have a sick tree. :( I just noticed that it's leaves are curling up and it's clearly not healthy. I have no idea if it can be saved. It's huge, and we love that tree. I know who to call to have it cut down, but I'd really like to see if it's a lost cause before doing that. TruGreen, who does our lawn, offers a tree service but we haven't found that the lawn techs they send are terribly knowledgeable, so I'm skeptical. Any ideas on how to find someone? Quote
zoobie Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 I looked on Yelp and asked our friend who's a landscape architect who he uses. 1 Quote
klmama Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Your county extension might have some ideas, too. 3 Quote
hornblower Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 You want a certified arborist http://www.isa-arbor.com/findanarborist/arboristsearch.aspx 4 Quote
cera2 Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 I would post an ad on my county facebook page asking for arborist recommendations. 1 Quote
Happy Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Yes, you want a certified arborist. Google that with your city or county. I like the idea of calling the county extension service. We have an excellent company we use if you are in the DFW area. :) 1 Quote
barnwife Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Call the local DNR and ask for the forester. 1 Quote
Halftime Hope Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Wht Hornblower said is exactly the right advice. That is the professional organization for arborists, and they have a "finder" by zipcode. 1 Quote
Amy in NH Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Your county Cooperative Extension office may have a forester on staff, or be able to refer you to an arborist in your area. 1 Quote
hornblower Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 remember a forester =/= an arborist my FIL was a professional forester. It's not at all the same thing as an arborist. 1 Quote
Spryte Posted June 7, 2016 Author Posted June 7, 2016 Thank you! I knew there was a name for it, but could not come up with it. I'll do some looking online tonight and make call tomorrow. :) Happy, I wish we could use your company! The drive would be a bit much - we're in the DC area. Quote
barnwife Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 remember a forester =/= an arborist my FIL was a professional forester. It's not at all the same thing as an arborist. Anecdote FTW. I am the daughter of a professional forester. He worked for the state as one for his entire career. And what the OP is asking about is one of the things that fell under his domain. People called all. the. time. and asked about their trees. Therefore, my advice stands. Especially because you could most likely visit the closest one and take in a leaf sample or whatever and get some advice for free. So yeah, I'd start there. Side note: Why doesn't it like the word aborist? Isn't that correct? Quote
