I read your title as, "I got instant pot for my birthday". Didn't know if that was special pot

Every time one of these threads comes up I think it's some sort of dehydrated stuff you just add water to.... !   I do not know WHY I haven't learned yet!

Oooh, Sparkly!  Happy birthday to you!  I've had so much fun with mine in the six weeks I've had it!  The only dish I haven't liked as much was cooking ribs in it, because when I boil ribs, then grill, the boiling renders a lot of the greasiness out of the meat.

Since you got the Big Mama, you'll be able to do a lot bigger pot-in-pot cooking, which is where a lot of the really fun stuff (baking, soufflés, puddings, flans, etc.) comes into play.

The FB community had a big blow-up in early May, so there are now a couple of new FB groups that are dedicated to recipes and help only, no drama allowed.  They've been good about staying on topic.

The most helpful (to me) is finding the websites that are good and bookmarking them for recipes.

Be sure to keep the manuals that came with it.  The rice - it took me a while.

The container that comes with it is the measuring cup you use for rice.

Your regular liquid measuring cup is what you should use for the water.

Be SURE to open after the 10 (I think) minute cool down, no more than that or you won't have "perfect rice".

And this is sooooo  kid friendly.  Sweet + meat + the carbs in the rice and we're golden.  I add snow peas.  YUM.
