Now that I've purchased The Great Courses Plus, I've been getting email updates.  Today's email informed me that several new courses have been added, and one of them happens to be: How To Program: Computer Science Concepts and Python Exercises (24 Lectures).  Since I know many of you have been looking for computer science courses, I thought I would let you know.  I may be taking advantage of this one myself!

The other courses that have been added are:

I purchased their one-year subscription without free month trial for $180.  To me that was a bargain compared to purchasing curriculum for one upper-level science or history class with all the books.  I also will be cancelling my BrainPop account ($99/yr).  Although BP states it's content is up to 12th grade, DD is no longer enamored with it's quick cartoon style and now prefers more mature, meaty content.  I couldn't agree more. Great Courses Plus fits the bill very nicely.

HTH!

Interesting. I've been eyeing Great Courses for a while now that my oldest is rapidly approaching high school.  As far as BrainPop - Middle school at the latest.  I would consider Crash Course for high school - they have expanded beyond social studies with science collections, too.  I use both Crash & BrainPop for my middle graders.

I just started the free trial of GC+. I had to sign up for the monthly plan to do that, but will probably switch to the yearly plan. I called and confirmed that was ok. :)

Im going to have my teen watch How to Become a Super Star Student, the Customs one will fit nicely with our world geography, and Understanding Japan will help us prepare for our summer exchange student. I'm looking at Latin 101 (comes with a workbook) as well as some of the math and science. There aren't enough hours in the day!

My DD is a rising 8th grader.  We've had BP since she was in 3rd and loved it.  I asked her about incorporating BP in her Physical Science in the fall, but she emphatically told me she felt she was too old for it now.  That's when I started looking at GC+ and saw all the potential topics for her upcoming science class.  We're going with The Joy of Science with the Integrated Science text suggested in the lectures, as well as Science Matters: Achieving Scientific Literacy and Why the Universe Is the Way it Is, by Hugh Ross.

I've also added the Crash Course site to my YouTube Subscriptions too.

Thanks for the heads up on the Understanding Japan course! We know a bit about Japan and will be there again in August (we go every few years) so it will be interesting to see what is included in this series.

Also look at the "Life Where I'm From" channel on YouTube. A Canadien-Japanese girl explains various parts of Japanese culture in different episodes.
