OhioMomof3
I need to buy some tops for summer, some casual and some a bit more formal. I am looking for ones that aren't form-fitting. Do you have any recommendations for stylish, short-sleeved tops that flare out a little at the waist (or that can hide a little weight around the middle)? wonderchica
I saw lots of looser casual tops at Old Navy today.
alisoncooks
I keep seeing ads pop up on Facebook for summer tunics at JC Penney. They were cute.
Guest
Soft Surroundings. JJill. Chicos. Check their catalogs. Check sales on the websites. For my "dislikes" on these-- JJill tends toward the wrinklier look of line, which is not me. I supply enough wrinkles on my own. Soft Surroundings has a tendency toward too-scoopy of necklines for my ... ability to make them interesting. Chicos tends to add a lot of bling on some of their pieces. That said, I bought something from the SALES RACK of each of these, yesterday. All are good quality in my experience.

Your evaluations are spot on!
Carol in Cal.
Nordstroms has these, some of which are on sale right now. I have this one, and it is so flattering, I thought it was pricey but couldn't resist and have worn it enough that it was totally worth it: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/melissa-mccarthy-seven7-tulip-back-print-tank-plus-size/4335671?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=WINTER%20SKY%20COMBO%2F%20LOOSE%20FLORAL I also find that wearing a long sleeveless vest or sweater vest over a slightly too fitted tank or t can take it from unacceptable looking to just fine, especially with a long bold necklace or one of those very long filmy cotton scarves. J-rap
The Loft often has styles like that, and they also often have 40% off sales! But also, that style really seems to be popular now. I feel like I see them everywhere! I know that Macys has styles like that, as does JCPenney's.
yucabird
When I was in the States last month, I purchased a couple short dresses like this at Old Navy. I actually couldn't tell what they were supposed to be....They'd be great as long summer blouses on a taller person; however, I'm short and live in a hot, humid area, so they are the perfect summer dress length for me. I'm wearing them with fancy sandals.
TammyS
Why are these shirts always polyester? That always makes me feel sweaty and nasty.
OhioMomof3
Thanks! I looked these stores up online and was browsing through their tops. There are a lot more "forgiving" ones than I was expecting. Now I just need to plan a day to go to the stores and try them on.
TechWife
Why are these shirts always polyester? That always makes me feel sweaty and nasty. I have such a hard time finding nice blouses without polyester in them. It stays in the upper 90's here during the summer with a week or two in the low 100's. I can't wear polyester when it's hot like that!
TammyS
I have such a hard time finding nice blouses without polyester in them. It stays in the upper 90's here during the summer with a week or two in the low 100's. I can't wear polyester when it's hot like that! I found these on Amazon. They are cotton. Not fancy, but nicer than a Tshirt and affordable. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F4QJS3E/ref=crt_ewc_title_srh_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3DSDGTVWGU683 I don't know how anyone can wear poly in the summer. Here it's more like high 80s-mid 90s, but high humidity. When I've tried to wear poly, I just end up with sweat rolling down my torso. Yuck.
