lewber
If you have someone come to your house to dog sit, is it necessary that they spend the night? Do you leave your dog at home alone overnight?
hjffkj
It depends on the dog honestly. Most dogs would be fine with no one around overnight, mine are. But other dogs are anxious or get separation anxiety when no one is around for a long time. Those dogs do well with an overnight sitter.
gingersmom
My son spent a week in the hospital and the dog and cats spent 22 hours/day alone. I came home every morning to feed/walk and every evening. The first few days they were confused but fine. By day 7 my dog had enough of being left home alone.
lewber
The dog would be fine, no anxiety or issues. I know he's left alone during the day. It just seems weird to leave him alone overnight for some reason.
foxbridgeacademy
We leave our dog overnight occasionally, we make sure he has food, water, and a potty pad. We leave the TV on for him. He's always happy to see us but otherwise no issues. We do confine him to 1 room though so we don't have to worry about him trying to get into things like the trash. mom2hunangirls
I would t be as worried about my dog being alone at night as I would be that the sitter could come late enough before bed and early enough the next morning. Mine wouldn't use a potty pad so he'd be uncomfortable if his times were off by much.
texasmama
My dog is crated at night. She is fine left alone.
wintermom
We have done it both ways. It was much less stressful for the dog to stay at home, even being left alone for periods of time, than going to a kennel. I'd arrange that the pet sitter visits 3 - 4 times throughout the day/evening, depending on the dog's needs (e.g., exercise, relieving themself, food and water, medication, etc.). QueenCat
Mine's not crated and he'd be lonely, so I'd do what I could to have someone there overnight.
mmasc
It's necessary for us, because we'd like to have a house to come back to LOL. My little heeler has anxiety and would *totally* destroy the house and everything in it. And obviously would be quite distraught. So for us, the dog sitter must stay the night. But I agree it depends on the dog(s). Several years ago when we had two elderly dogs, we'd occasionally leave for a weekend and could just have someone come right before bed, first thing in the morning, then a couple of times during the day. They were just fine all night.
Scarlett
We are going to NY in July and the house sitter has already been secured. We have a pool, and I pay about $15 per day. I throw in a bit of junk/convenience foods....the 18 year old girl is happy to do it.
