Amber in SJ
My 21yo dd got married this weekend. She married a lovely young man from England. His family traveled here to be at the wedding. They wanted to see San Francisco so we drove to their hotel to pick them up & take them into the city. For the entire ride to their hotel, I lectured my children about what not to say; Don't ask them if they know the Queen, Dr Who or Harry Potter. Don't ask to see their teeth. Don't ask if they play polo. Don't ask them to say "H" or "Z," just so you can snicker and so on. I needn't have bothered. As we entered the lobby the brother turned to us & said, "Where are all the fat people? I thought Americans were all obese!" His mother was mortified. My kids giggled like mad fiends. SKL
LOL! I have been in many such situations. My favorite is the time an Indian grad student informed me that he understood all Americans to be illiterate. :p Luckily I had recently purchased an almanac and was able to tell him the literacy rate differential in US vs. India. :sneaky2: Oh, and the time I was informed that there is no American virgin over age 13. Kareni
At least the brother did not say that you were fat! Best wishes to your daughter and her husband. I hope they'll be very happy together. Regards, Kareni
