PhotoGal
Hi there, I have an extreme auditory learner (possible visual processing learning disability). He is slowly learning his letters, but has trouble copying and even tracing them sometimes. I was wondering if anyone knew of any songs that teach how to write letters. I am imagining something that would describe how to write each letter (like "make a big circle, then a little line"). Does this exist? :)
Shoes+Ships+SealingWax
I don't know about "songs" per se, but you could certainly adopt a stroke naming system or use a curriculum that has one. We are using LOE Foundations & every stroke for every letter has a name. You learn basic strokes first (swing, roll, straight, drop-swoop, drop-hook) then encorporate them into the letters they are used for. Lower-case Aa for example is "roll, swing, straight" while lower-case Dd is "roll, swing high, straight & lower-case Gg is "roll, swing, drop-swoop"
wendyroo
Not songs, but Letter and Number formation poems. Wendy
MerryAtHope
Again not songs, but take a look at Handwriting Without Tears. They group the letters according to the type of stroke (for example, there are "magic C" letters that all start with the C formation, "diver" letters that they compare to a diver who dives down and back up, etc...) My dd loved the story for small g ("George" is in or on the g and about to fall, so you have to swing the tail underneath to catch him.)
