ThoughtfulMama
DS is finishing up first grade at a private school, and I'm putting together his box of summer learning. I'm set with reading, computers, and science, but I need some more ideas for math. He has great number intuition and enjoys working through word problems and logic puzzles, so I'm looking for some "fun" stuff for him. I'm not looking for a curriculum, but more fun math support things that he will choose to do on his own. He is math gifted (and reading on the high school level), but we haven't accelerated him other than lots of mental math. Right now he has been playing Dragonbox, and he whipped through the entire 5+ algebra app last weekend and has moved on to the 12+. We have the first 4 LOF books, which he likes. We have Sir Cumferance and Penrose. We also have a book of Mind Benders. We do Bedtime math at the dinner table.More ideas? He is a voracious learner, so having lots of resources around is a given. Rush
Loot at MEP. Although it is the curriculum programme, but It has a great amount of the word problems and logical questions and not really boring one. DS enjoy doing it. For the fun math-y staff I can suggest Murderous Maths. My son keeps giggling through all the serie and says they are hilarious. Also I would suggest you go through the books of Ian Stewart. He is a Professor of Maths and an author of great math-y science fiction books. I am planning to invest in a few of them this summer too. Plus we have bought this wonderful activity book: "This is not a Maths Book: A Smart Art Activity Book" by Anna Weltman. It worth every cent.
Kathleen.
Have you looked at Hands On Equations? My girls really like. It's a lot of fun.
mathnerd
Ian Stewart's book has been converted to an iPad app - Incredible Numbers - my son loves it. There are Balance Benders from CTC which I like a lot. You can get him some Math Kangaroo question papers from their website and they are fun to solve (they have free ones also in the Canadian website: https://kangaroo.math.ca/index.php?kn_mod=samples At that age, I did the SM Challenging Word Problems and Intensive Practice books at a higher level. I got a few Murderous Math books, but they did not get much use as my DS read them once and tossed them. ThoughtfulMama
Thank you all! Placing some orders today. Keeping him stocked is a big job.As I look through the lists of Ian Stewart books, I realize that I think we have some of these in our bookshelves. It reminded me that we have lots of interesting things at home that I haven't opened up to him yet. blondeviolin
I'm surprise nobody has mentioned prodigy. It's a free math game with battles like Pokemon.
ThoughtfulMama
He has just started on Prodigy too - I should have listed that. I'm not sure yet what he thinks of it, but it looks like fun.

I got him a 10-book box set this weekend, and he has already plowed through 4 of them. I asked if he understood everything or if he would have to read them again later after more school, and he said that he understands pretty much everything but not always. Regardless, he is a re-reader, so this has been a good investment.
Sarah0000
My son uses many of the same resources you listed as well. Has yours done the Slice Fractions app yet? I just bought and am waiting to receive Mythematical Battles which looks pretty fun if you are into games.
