momacacia
Those little white caps that go over the screws that bolt the toilet down, make.me.crazy! Are they supposed to fit, or like mine are they supposed to sit atop the bolt and wiggle off whenever I clean? Does anyone have a cover that fits there snuggly? Where did you get them?
TammyS
Caulk them down onto the toilet. You don't ever need to use them until you are ready to replace the toilet, at which point you can easily cut the caulk away.
Mothersweets
That makes me crazy, too! Why aren't they attached?! I'll have to try the caulk - never thought of that - good idea!
SKL
Mine are always wiggling off too. :/
momacacia
Research has revealed that www.jewelsfortheloo.com has a possible solution. Yes, people actually make fancy toilet bolt covers.
KungFuPanda
You're supposed to caulk them? I actually knocked one off, stepped on it, and broke it this week? I swear I'm just going to paint the stupid bolts and be done with it. I'd probably scratch myself on them or something :-/ Does anyone else have to routinely tighten the toilet seats? Is that normal or is my family extra wiggly???
laundrycrisis
Our seats loosen all the time. I've tried different brands of seats and they all loosen.
Lakeside
Ours don't even reach the toilet. They perch atop the screws mockingly. I don't know if the screws are too long or the caps are too small, but it is annoying. I always mean to see if they come in different sizes, but I never think about it except when I'm cleaning. So, thanks for the reminder!
Lakeside
Apparently, it is common for the bolts to be too long. They should have been cut off with a hacksaw when the toilet was installed. :glare:

We remodeled the bathroom and I insisted the new bolts be trimmed. I was reminded that he left them long to help with removal of the toilet in the future. I reminded back that the toilet had only been pulled once in the previous 15 years, vs I had cleaned that bathroom and those ugly, now rusty, bolts every week for 15 years. They were trimmed.
plansrme
I was just making this observation myself as I am painting a bathroom and getting up close and personal with the back of the toilet. I used to have a toilet somewhere that came with a ball of plumber's putty (though any kind of putty would work) in the cap. It stuck down on the bolt and mostly held the cap still. The whole toilet installation process and, yes, I have installed a toilet or two in my day, seems shockingly imprecise to me.
TammyS
You're supposed to caulk them? I don't know if you're "supposed" to caulk them down, it's just what I do to keep them from driving me crazy. That way a broom or mop or whatever can be run right over them without them flying off.

Is that normal or is my family extra wiggly??? I don't have any problems with my toilet bolts, knock on wood. But we always had issues with the toilet seats getting loose. I found these at Target http://www.toiletseats.com/model-family/view/plastic-seat-whisper-close-with-easy-clean-change-hinges-and-statite/ and we haven't had any issue since. & with 4 young in the house, this has made toilet cleaning a lot easier. I might have to pull out my inner handywoman and shorten them myself. If I can find her. ;)

My complaint is that they are annoying to clean because they don't stay put. And oddly I was thinking about this very thing a few days ago. Guest
Kohler makes a toilet seat that has a Soft-open / soft-close feature. We got one and it is perfect in every way. It has no screw-on caps--the things that cover the bolts atre flush (haha) either the porcelain and they don't come off and are very easy to clean. Only problem is that once you get one, you have to get more for all the toilets in the house. There is no going back. I think they are available at Home Depot. I'm not sure. Toilet seats just happen not to fall in my Share of the Responsibilities in our equal opportunity marriage.
