SKL Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 On a recent facebook thread, someone said you can avoid seeing every post your friend "likes." Can someone explain how to do that? I tried to find it on facebook but no luck. Seems 90% of my facebook feed is stuff that has nothing to do with my friends or family. I would like to clean that up. Quote
PuddleJumper1 Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) If you click the dropdown in the upper right corner there's an option to unfollow but still remain friends. Nothing from that friend shows up on my page. I go to each friend's page to check in when I want. Mind you I only have about 25 friends so it's not a big deal. I never found a way to see their posts but not their likes. Edited May 22, 2016 by PuddleJumper1 1 Quote
melbotoast Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 You can also click on the down arrow in the upper right, and click on Hide All from <friend's friend who I don't know>. After spending a few days doing this my feed was much cleaner. I also hide any sites or apps that I don't care to see (cooking videos or exercise posts). 3 Quote
Haiku Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 SKL, I know we disagree on a lot of things, but I agree with you on this. It's awful. Unfortunately, FB does not want people to easily be able to hide these things, because it wants you to follow their clickbait. What I have done that has helped is click on the little down arrow in the corner of the post, click to hide the post, and then click to "see less from." You can also click to "Hide all from ..." and that way you don't have to see any posts from whoever or whatever it was that your friend liked. I spent about a week doing this frequently, and my FB feed was much more under control. In the future, make sure you don't "like" or comment on any of the things that show up that your friends "liked" or commented on. 2 Quote
AmandaVT Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 All of the above - plus I have "Adblock" installed on my browser and it essentially eliminates all ads, which I found FB was full of. That also helped clean up my feed a bunch. 1 Quote
ThisIsTheDay Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Not trying to hijack this thread, but I've been wondering about the feasibility of just listing the friends I want to see into a "Special Friends" list. Instead of going to my regular FB feed, I could just view that list only and then see only those posts of people I like. I have a group or two like that, and I don't recall ever seeing ads or what they liked on other pages. It only shows their posts. While I think it would be time consuming to put together, it would probably really only take about 5 mins. Quote

While there are some things Social Fixer can't do because facebook won't let it, it gives you much more flexibility than just facebook. That's the program I use to hide political posts. You can put in keywords (like "candidate's name") and tell it you don't want to see anything with those words. Just like the Ignore feature here on WTM, you can still choose to see those posts if you want to, but they won't show up on your news feed. All of their likes, shares, posts, etc. ETA: Social Fixer is free and is available for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. I know it isn't available for Internet Explorer, but don't know about other browsers. It covers the big three though. Edited May 23, 2016 by Lady Florida. 1 Quote
SKL Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 OK, so today I have started clicking on individual posts and asking fb to hide all posts from [friend of my fb friend / page whose comment fb friend liked]. This is a slow way to go about it, but it seems the best option available right now. 2 Quote
