momandsam Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I have decided to try Essentials in Writing. Is the grammar portion enough, or should I add Easy Grammar as well or in place of EIW grammar? My rising 4th and 6th grader have had some grammar in the past (BJU). Quote
Guest Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 We have used Easy Grammar and Fix It! Grammar with EIW. My oldest likes the EG and my youngest is using FixIt! They both work well with EIW. My personal favorite of the two is FixIt! We also still use the grammar portion of EIW and just supplement with the others. :) Quote
momandsam Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 We have used a combination of BJU and Fix It. I think we'll give Easy Grammar a try. Is it something they can work at independently with occasional help as needed? I am already doing AAS, BJU math and BJU Science so I am doing a lot of one-on-one instruction with both of them. I am hoping that they could do writing and grammar as independent as possible. Quote
MerryAtHope Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I've only used Essentials in Writing for the older grades, not in elementary. But in elementary, I always liked alternating my focus each year so as not to over-extend myself. So I would say that you could certainly decide to just use EiW this year, and do a grammar focus next year, instead of trying to do both. Or, if you happen to finish EiW early, then work on some grammar specifically after that. I used Easy Grammar Plus, and didn't find it needed a lot of instruction time, but I usually did need to go over the instructions or help them with certain aspects--and then they could go do that page themselves. So, it's not solid one-on-one time, but maybe 5 minutes. HTH! Quote
Guest Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) My dd works through EG independently. The only thing I really need to do is check her work. Fix It! is a little more teacher intensive, but not too much. Edited May 22, 2016 by Guest Quote
