Bocky Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Me: Oh, shoot. Dd12: You can't use that word. Me: It's a replacement word, not an actual bad word. Dd12: It's a bad word here in England. Me: Dd, where do you live? I think I might have assigned too much British literature... for the record, we live in America. 14 Quote
Hen Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016  um, yeah, Ron Weasly uses Bl** dy He*l too often in the HP movies, I had to remind the kids that it is a really not-nice phrase in England and to not use it. 4 Quote
Ali in OR Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I use to prefer all of the British spellings like colour instead of color, also from too much Brit Lit I'm sure. 2 Quote

I found out a couple of weeks ago that DD thought we lived in South America. *sigh* 4 Quote
theelfqueen Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Do you live in the American South? I always think of Ron's Bloody H*ll as the stoner "F*ing A!" of my younger days! 1 Quote
mamiof5 Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Lol! Just a little disoriented, that's all 😂 1 Quote

I think "Bl***y ***l" is Ron's signature phrase. Favorite Brit word in our house at the moment is "jolly", as in the "the jolly dog has done it again." 1 Quote
Bocky Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 No it's cause they're inherently better 😠My dds would strenuously disagree. I may happen to be an ex-pat Kiwi, and my resulting vowel sounds have rendered many a spelling lesson deeply challenging for my hapless American daughters. Me: "Worr-terr." Dd: "Mom, can you say it in American?" Me: "um, wah-tah?" Dd: "How many "r"s?" 6 Quote
