madteaparty Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Wondering if anyone has subjected their child to both :) and has any idea how they line up. The algebra regents was changed recently and it resulted in a huge drop in scores (prompting the New York Times to get into it). We'd be finished with the AOPS algebra book at end of next school year, taking the full year for the second half (via WTMA class). We did the aops class for the first half and struggled mightily, though not as much as with the AOPS preA book/class... 1 Quote
wapiti Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 (edited) Regents is now Common Core, isn't it? I'd start with looking at the most recent Regents exams online. The basic differences with Common Core include some topics pushed down to 8th grade CC and the addition of some statistics topics in CC alg 1 (e.g. standard deviation comes to mind). There also may be a few topics in the second half of Intro to Alg that are touched on in CC alg 1; e.g. Regents uses quite a bit of function notation. http://www.nysedregents.org/algebraone/ Edited May 19, 2016 by wapiti 2 Quote
