Scarlett
Me too. A couple of things I've felt good in lately......tunic sale t shirts that swing a bit at the hips but aren't boxy....worn with tight jeans....and I wore a maxi dress for the first time....I felt good in it. Got lots of compliments.
Guest
This dress. https://m.softsurroundings.com/P/Santiago_Dress/ I got one on a lark three weeks ago...and now I own three. I wear a tank with a slightly higher neckline (from Chicos) and a longish linen or sheer overblouse (buttoned or not). I have a feeling I'm going to live in this skirt this summer. It flows beautifully and the fabric is thin enough to be cool but not cheap. And the layers let me adjust to my ever-fluctuating temperature. This store has some stores in malls: sales prices are ALWAYS better in the store. And until one month ago, I was pretty much a jeans and tshirts girl. Overnight I went completely to skirts and dresses. This dress is a big part of why.
KarenNC
I wear longer, loose or A-line skirts/dresses almost exclusively (because I feel most comfortable in them) and I could not do without pettipants/split slips to prevent chafing from my heavy thighs.
Artichoke
I like A-line skirts that fall a couple of inches above the knee and curvy fit Levis. I'm shorter so I try to stay away from longer skirts and maxi dresses.
6packofun
Hanes skirts! I like this one: http://www.hanes.com/hanes/women/womens-clothing/skirts---dresses/womens-hanes-foldover-skirt-25175 and this one: http://www.hanes.com/hanes/women/womens-clothing/women-apparel/hanes-signature-flirt-skirt-26937 I don't always wear skirts for casual, everyday stuff, though. I tend to wear Lee brand jeans and even though I'm probably not the body type for capris I still wear them. I have found a lot of cute tops on Zulily! And honestly, I'm not opposed to wearing maternity tops that don't look like maternity wear because they just have more room in the tummy/hips area! It definitely has to be the right fit to not look like preggo clothing, though. ;)
Arch at Home
I like to wear dresses with empire bodices as they enhance my small bustline. Skirts work well as they are easier to find that find than pants and shorts. My thighs are large due to athletics so it seems that boot leg or trouser pants/jeans work better. I have heard that buying pants/jeans longer than I would typically would buy helps with the thighs as longer thigh portion works for larger thighs. I have yet to try that. Other than that my basic top is a semi-fitted t-shirt.
newhsmom
I just watched a great YouTube video about dressing a pear shaped body. Erin Busbee is a stylist in her 40s and she offers some great tips for dressing different body types.
redsquirrel
boot cut jeans and a nice pair of shoes with a heel. I am short and pear shaped so that lengthens my legs. The flair of the boot cut gives a visual balance to my hips. And a good cut to those jeans helps a great deal. It seems counter-intuitive to me, but going with flowing or very lose clothing only serves to make me look more pear shaped, or worse...shapeless. I have come to accept that I am not fooling anyone, lol. If I wear clothes that are cut a bit, I said a bit mind you, tighter or closer to the body, I look better in general. My instinct is to run to the mumu, and it is not my friend. I just look like a beach ball. A bit of spandex in those jeans is a good thing. I'm not talking jeggings, I am simply talking about enough fit that they don't get all baggy and sloppy by the end of the day. So, my go to outfit has become a good fitting pair of jeans, a shoe with a heel of some kind (we are not talking a 3 inch stacked heel, ok?), and a v neck tank under a v neck cardigan or top. I can wear a tunic or something like that...again...I am not fooling anyone with that...but then I can't wear a boot cut jean. If I wear a longer or looser top then I need to wear a straight cut jean or pant with flats. Either my pants or my top can have a long line...not both or I will look like I added 20 lbs. And saying a long line in relation to my cloths is relative. I'm barely 5' tall, so no line is looking 'long' on me, lol

And saying a long line in relation to my cloths is relative. I'm barely 5' tall, so no line is looking 'long' on me, lol I took some online classes on posing people for pictures and how to enhance and disguise what needs...enhancing and disguising. A lot of the tips don't work in real life (after all, we do MOVE) but one of the things that came through loud and clear was that the photographer should tell those who are ... too short for their weight (:::smile:::) to wear something that skims the body, not a big oversized shirt or whatever--a muumuu. That way, you can create space around the body, which gives it better shape than a blob (or a beach ball as you said). And darker colors recede, brighter colors _____ (I can't think of the word that is the opposite of recede). So on a pear, a lighter top and a darker "bottom" (this gets confusing), and something that allows you to have space between your body and your arms, at least when you extend your arms a bit, gives shape that is much more attractive than a beach ball. Also, I remember when Prince Andrew and Fergie got married, I read an article about how great her dress was at disguising her Big Pear hips...because it nipped in at the waist and then a-lined down, skimming her hips and then it *didn't* pinch in again, but just kept the a-line and made her look much trimmer. Anyway, I thought those were interesting tidbits...maybe they are interesting to someone here, too.
