Wholesomemomma
In your opinion, would it be better for my son to continue with WWE and use level 3 next school year for 4th grade and then IEW for 5th grade the year after? Or should I just jump into IEW for 4th grade? I also have a rising second grader so that's what's making me think I should use WWE this coming year for both of them and wait on IEW for the following year. Is there great benefit to using WWE before IEW?
PentecostalMom
We prefer WWE here. I used Writing Strands before it was recommended in WTM, but now we use WWE followed by WS. I know a lot of people love IEW, but video based programs are not a hit here.
Insertcreativenamehere
It depends on what version of IEW you're talking about. The Bible Heroes book is targeted to 2nd graders. The Student Writing Intensive would not be ideal for most 2nd graders. I'd suggest it for 4th and up. I'm doing WWE for my 3rd grader and IEW's Medieval theme book for my 5th grader right now.
mamamoose
If you are using the theme books do you need the dvd's?
Jane Elliot
I've used both these programs quite a lot. There is great benefit to WWE period, no matter what you plan to follow it up with. I strongly prefer WWE for early elementary. If you were looking at WWE 4 for your 4th grader, I might suggest that you consider switching to IEW at this point, depending on how well he's writing, but if he's at the WWE 3 level, I'd go with that. Where IEW really shines for some kids is in the middle school years, grade 5 and up. That said, I'm using WWS for my current middle schoolers.

These are for the teacher. The student DVDs go with the SWI programs. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

After mulling this over for a few days, and reading the responses, this is what I've come up with for my rising 4th grader... WWE 3 next year for 4th grade IEW SWI A for 5th grade IEW theme book for 6th grade WWS starting in 7th Good plan? How will I fit my rising 2nd grader into this though? Probably keep them in separate levels, huh...
Jane Elliot
Yes, that looks like a good plan. Unless the younger is advanced, I would keep them on different levels. I've successfully combined students in IEW though. When you get to that point, call IEW to get advice and recommendations. They are tremendously helpful.
