The doctor was able to get it out this time! The tilt table made all the difference. They had my bottom raised up and head down, so I was practically upside down, but it worked. The IUD was up at the top of my uterus, turned sideways, and the end with the strings was embedded in the side of my uterus a bit. I refused to watch, but the nurse was all excited saying "wow, it's really adhered!". And I saw it afterwards and there was a small clump of tissue attached to the end with the strings. But no real pain, just discomfort, thanks to a lovely cervical block. And it was pretty quick as well. I'm having some bleeding, but not bad. So glad it is out!

I almost passed out reading your thread. You are a braver woman than I ktgrok! Glad all is well. :)

LOL, I didn't feel brave! I thought I'd be all curious and want to watch on the monitor but no, it turns out, I did NOT want to watch. I looked a few times quickly, but when they said it was stuck I turned away. I couldn't feel much, and didn't want to SEE it being pulled out.

Now I just feel like I had VERY energetic TeA :) A bit sore, but otherwise fine.

That's great news that they removed it without needing major surgery - yay!

Should I say congratulations? Like, is that the word? Or should I just say "Whew!"  or something?

Either way - I'm glad it's out.

That's good, but if I was ever inclined to get an IUD I would now be cured.

Did you remember to ask about checking for a UTI?

I did, believe it or not, lol!  I had to remind them, then they had to go track down my pee from wherever someone had stuck it. No UTI, just dehydrated. Spilling some bilirubin (+1) which was the color I was seeing.

Congrats!

Totally hear you on not watching. I've had the opportunity to watch a few procedures, and each time I thought it might be interesting ... Then, nope. I didn't want to see!

So, am I justified to just be laying around surfing the net and watching star trek reruns today? Given the stomach flu earlier this week, one night with less than 3 hours sleep, and then this procedure today?

This is rhetorical, right?

HaHa, Word. B.) I almost got Mirena once, until I read that brochure and it talked about "perforating" the uterus. No thank you; I prefer to keep all perforations to my checkbook.

Congratulations, Katie! I've never had one. I also haven't been around the boards much lately, but I hope this means I can send you some healthy baby vibes now or after whatever the recommended wait time is?

Please do! The doctor said no need to wait, other than well, not tonight :)

Probably won't be able to get pregnant this cycle, my uterine lining will probably be too thin from the hormones, but he also said it wouldn't hurt to try. I also asked a specialist who said the same thing, to go ahead and try. So, we'll see :)

So, full on period today, or at least seems like it. And I just had a period last weekend! But that was spotting, and this is heavier. I think my cycles are resetting. I'd started testing with ovulation test strips a few days ago and the line was getting darker (but not positive yet, not darker than the control strip) and now it is gone completely. Just as well, as there was no way I was interested in baby making right now!

Ugh.  That sounds awful.  Glad it is out.

Condoms are easier!  ;)

I am so sorry for all you had to go through but you followed your gut instinct and asked to try again. Halleluja!!! Now I'll be looking for the pregnancy announcement.

I hope you took the entire weekend off! You need a break. Hope you are recovering well from IUD ordeal, I'm so glad it worked out. Praying for pregnancy announcement soon! If it's God's plan for you to have another baby I'm throwing a WTM virtual party when he/she comes. I called it first :)

Oh man, I'm scheduled for an IUD in a couple of weeks.  Now I'm definitely rethinking it!

I'm glad you are on the mend!

I think I'm the exception, not the rule, but I can definitely say I won't ever get another one. Getting it in was about as fun as getting it out...took 3 tries and two different care providers. One of who wasn't licensed to do it and I reported her to the medical board (she has since lost her license for other reasons)

I'm just glad I didn't listen to the other OB at that practice, whom I don't like, who said that I didn't need hysteroscopy, he'd just dig and find it!

Yes and no. I did get an hour nap yesterday and today! But last night my youngest woke up with a tummy ache twice (left over from this virus) and then after that the oldest woke up and started vomiting, around 3am. So I was up and down with him the rest of the night. Sigh.

But yeah, I'm working to be good to myself. Lots of down time. A trip to the store, light cooking (eggs and toast and such) and a bit of light tidying up and laundry, but lots of laying in bed on the internet and watching TV. I really needed that rest.

Yikes!  I have a really good OB, she did a hysteroscopy on me last year to remove some polyps and I felt well taken care of.  She wants me to get an IUD instead of an ablation because she worries about being able to test the uterine lining later on if I need it, so I am comfortable with her advice. However, this is kind of freaking me out. If she can't get it in the first time I'm done.

Ugh!!! I've heard of a yucky stomach virus going around :( I hope y'all feel better soon! Glad you were able to rest a little

Okay, going to say I almost miss the IUD. I'd forgotten how bad cramps suck!! I haven't had anything more than a bit of spotting in over 7 years. Yuck. I also hate pads, but when I got brave and tried a tampon it made the cramps worse. Bergh. I better get a baby out of this, lol! Meanwhile my tracking apps say I'm either cycle day 4 or cycle day 14.

You might find that your cramps are worse than they would normally be because of the IUD.  It must make for some tender tissues in there.

Ugh, woke up and had to change my underwear as I'd soaked through my pad overnight. Some clots as well. Yuck. Totally forgot how much I hate this. Then went back to bed and dreamt I bled all over my neighbor's chair while at a party.

May try tampons again today, as this pad thing is not cool. And before someone suggests a cup, with my weirdly positioned cervix that isn't physically possible, trust me.

Today is day 5 of bleeding, which is totally within the norm for a period. I know that intellectually. But after years and years of just light spotting here and there it's annoying. I'm such a baby!

Posted

IIRC, I had bleeding for several weeks after mine was removed. I hadn't had a period in 6 years, and it was a rude awakening! Maybe cloth pads?

weeks????? :crying:

Cloth pads would still be messy, which is what is so annoying. My whole nether region gets covered in blood, and I hate it. Just put a tampon in, and seems to be fine. They said I only had to avoid anything up there for 24 hours and it's been 5 days, so I should be fine. And the cramps don't seem worse, so I think my cervix was just annoyed from the hysteroscopy the other day. Seems fine now. So that's a relief. I can handle this much better if I can use tampons.

Yeah, I used to work at a doctors office in high school, cleaning among other things, and the mess after a IUD removal was brutal.  The doctors always told people that it's not just a normal period.

Mine just said "you might have some spotting". Um yeah...not just spotting. I guess it varies a lot from what I'm finding on the internet. And yes..the mess. As he was leaving the room he said "don't move....seriously, don't move until the nurse finishes cleaning you up."  Because on top of the IUD removal there was all the fluid from the hysteroscopy.

I'm having some Naproxen dropped off soon, going to try that to help with the cramps and bleeding (with my bariatric doctor's okay...I take prilosec so he said it was safe.) Googling had me finding stories of women needing transfusions they bled so long after a Mirena removal! Stuff they definitely don't tell you when you get one put in!

Edited to add: Ok, this is crazy. I just gave birth to a clot, I swear. I was walking and thought I felt the tampon coming out. Nope. Ugh. I'm going to add an extra iron supplement to my regime.

Also, so much for "your lining will probably be thin from the hormones in the IUD". Seems there was plenty of freaking lining from what I can tell.

That's probably not uterine lining, but fresh blood. I would be concerned that there was a perforation when they tried to get it out. I'd run it by the doc.

The bleeding has nearly stopped! I don't know if it was the Aleve that I took or if that big clot was keeping things from clamping down and now that I passed it things settled down. Either way, SO much better now. Which is good.

Woke up and did NOT flood myself overnight! Yay! Flow is light but still bright red, not the darker color I associate with the tail end of a period, so probably not stopping yet. Also, forgot that I switched to a brand of ovulation test that requires first morning urine, so forgot to test. oops. I'm trying to test daily just because I have no idea what my hormones are doing.

But mainly, goals for today are to not hemorrhage and to poop (constipated on top of everything else.)

Just took an OPK test and it read peak fertility! No idea what is happening in my body, but I can assure you no baby making will be happening right now, lol! There is nothing sexy about passing clots of blood (happened again this morning).

Edited to Add: Although we obviously won't be TTC this cycle, I've decided to look at this as a good thing, a sign that my body is still ovulating at 40 :)  And if you go by my last actual period, not this post IUD bleeding, I'm day 15, which would be right on time. So that's awesome. And this gives me a month to lose a few more pounds maybe before hopefully getting pregnant.

So, just an update. Still bleeding, but it's light flow now, and has been since yesterday. The Aleve helped a LOT I think. Should have stared it way earlier. Still some clots each morning, but not during the day. Today was day 7 of bleeding, so I'm REALLY hoping it is over soon!

So is my husband. He kind of thought that agreeing to another kid would involve some actual intercourse, but between my actual period, then the stomach virus that hit the house, and then the withdrawal bleeding from removing the IUD the man hasn't seen any action at all. He said this morning that this whole trying for a baby thing hasn't been much fun.   Yeah, not for me either buddy. Not for me either.

Like Katie, I was an exception too. I'd NEVER do it again because when it fell out....GACK! Almost cost us a trip to the emergency room. Anyhoo, I know that most people really like having it.
