Janeway Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Grrr, another math compass broken!!!! He was not even using it at the time. I think he fidgets so much and he is so hard on it. I suspect he twirled the knobbies and the tip thingy broke off. I am frustrated. And need another compass. Suggestions? Quote
scoutingmom Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Maybe a totally different type of compass.... like this one? http://store.rightstartmath.com/mmarc-compass/ Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk 1 Quote

He cannot control the compasses. He cannot tie his shoes so I know it is a processing issue. But as a result, the compasses have been getting ruined. But I am sitting with him, doing the contructions myself, and then encouraging him to try. Yet, the last one got broken. Edited May 12, 2016 by Janeway Quote
Farrar Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Do you keep other fidgets around to distract him from the useful things that need to not wander off or be accidentally fidgeted into destruction? We keep a little bin of fidget things for my fidgeter. 1 Quote
MomatHWTK Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 (edited) I'd probably purchase a classroom set in bulk. I finally did that with scissors as my children lose them so frequently. But as others have mentioned, if you can get a favorite alternative (purchase several) and keep one always at hand that might help. GoVanGogh Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 DS has cerebral palsy. I ended up buying high end compass and protractor - in architecture/engineering section, not school supplies. DS can't control the pressure he exerts in his hands - it is all or nothing most times. Quote
wintermom Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Those school supplies compasses are so cheap, I've broken a ton of them myself. If you know you'll be using it a lot, get a better quality one or a few cheap ones and don't sweat it if they break. Quote
regentrude Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Get a Rotring. They are good quality and metal; I can't imagine anything breaking Quote

They are available in the art section of the local education store. Quote
