AimeeM
Which did you prefer? Why? I'd like something with activities that are NOT reliant on writing or coloring, as our rising 2nd grader struggles greatly with fine motor skills.
Chris in VA
I bought both but went with SOTW. I am not YE, and, although I liked the way she lined up the bible narrative with history, I found MOH not to my theological taste. However, if you are good with those two things, I would still say save it for logic stage.

I would only use MOH volume 1, because we're Catholic and I've heard it veers definitely protestant after volume 1. Actually, we won't use SOTW beyond volume 1 either, so there's that, lol. mschickie
Actually I found that MOH is very fair with the Catholic Church and really gives a good historical view of the development of the Church and the Protestant split. It really does not favor one religion over the other. I am usually very careful with that because I am formerly RC and I still have RC family and friends. I have used both SotW and MoH. I really like the way MoH reads. She does have lots of options for hands on activities in MoH. We rarely did the activities for SotW but I could usually find something I like in MoH. There were some really fun ones with food or with Legos that are just memorable for us.
Jess4879
We have been using both SOTW & MOH vol.1 this year. I prefer MOH's presentation, but the kids definitely engaged more with the SOTW readings. Even my 6th grader would glaze over for MOH. They hated the memory cards - but the summarizing has been good for them. There are a lot of activities in there and they are suited for all ages. My youngest was able to do those right along with his sisters with minimum assistance. If I was aiming for his age group though, I'd go with SOTW. Holly
I think SOTW is a better choice for 1st & 2nd grades. The maps are much simpler and the readings are a bit shorter and more story-like. Even a child struggling with writing would do fine with SOTW maps! MOH mapping made some of my DC cry. :leaving: My oldest DD really enjoyed the readings from MOH, and it's more geared toward middle grades.
